A TRV (the thermostat/control bit that unscrews only) at my mum's (NI) has gone, rather than see her pay £70 for a plumber I was going to buy a spare then send it over so a neighbour can screw it on.

Man at plumber's merchant's tells me that I need to buy the same brand again - I thought this was not the case & you could fit any thermostat to any valve, who is right?

Is it the head or the valve that has "gone" more info would help.
