Using your mobile for voice calls and held to your ear, do you swap the phone from one side to the other?

One of us noticed the other do just that and thought it was weird.

So, who's the weirdo? The one who swaps sides or the one who only every uses one ear (always the same one). Neither of us suffer any heating loss or damage.

Right ear only for me. It feels odd using my left ear!

You have a dominant ear in the same way as you have a dominant  hand. Can lead to that classic movie trope where there’s a phone call comes in with vital information and the hack / detective or whoever did they that odd ‘wait I’ve gotta write this down’ and contorts to hold the phone to their right ear with their left hand as they write

so switching from ear to ear might be a dominant hand / ear conflict

I'm right handed so I normally pick up the phone with my right hand and put it to my right ear. If I have to write down stuff while I'm talking, I shift the phone to my left hand and left ear.

Right ear. Luckily I'm left handed for writing.

If I'm not in public I'll have it on speaker phone though.  People who have it on speaker phone in public are weird.

Never put a phone to my ear, either video call or speaker phone

Left handed, left ear.

25 years of mobile phone ownership and it never occurred to me to change ears when writing something down rather than wedge it between my face and shoulder.  What a silly bunt.

Same as thols, right hand and ear if both hands are free, but I'm right handed so swap to left hand and ear if I need to do something at the same time

I don't care which ear I use. But sometimes swap if my arm starts aching or ear is sweaty. Usually if I'm on the phone to my mum, Christ she can talk!

Oh and obviously when I need to change gear in the car!!

I'm ****ing joking!!

I pretend I'm a contestant on The Apprentice by putting it on speakerphone and hold the phone horizontally near my mouth, speaking into the charge port, as if I'm charging the phone with my cocky self-assured bullshit.

I swap, but tend to spend less time listening with one ear than the other...
Proudly weird for over 40 years!

Right handed, but phone in left hand to left ear, but nowadays I use BT headphones most of the time, so it doesne matter.

Though I really feel the need (but have resisted) to slap phone out of the hands of ppl holding them like Pisco describes (above)

I take this as an easy visual clue to the holder of said phone being a ****. It is however quite distressing there is pretty much an entire generation growing up who seem to think this is how you do it (if they are ever able to summon up the courage to talk on a phone without getting 'triggered').

Product designers working for phone companies across the globe must look at the way people do that and just want to poke themselves in the eye. Worse, there is a future generation of phone designers on their way who have only held their phone like a **** and are going to design out the ability to hold your phone like a boomer and make us all look like ****s too!

I used to use the rubber band hands free option ... but since I got into body mods, i've a better solution.

And the best thing is, it means I can write with both hands ... at the same time!

handsfree

In the past I would switch ears depending on a number of factors including (but not limited to) noise, wind direction, how hot my ear got and which arm felt comfortable that day. Yea, proper oddball.

Now I simply don't speak on the phone unless I have my headset on.
