I'm not a keen Gardner, just a keep it clean and tidy type. I've got multiple ant nests in the lawn and can't seem to get rid of them. I've tried Nippon Ant Gel but that hasn't worked so thought I'd try on here, any suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks.

Use nematodes, no nasty chemicals buy a pack on line and they will be gone in a couple of weeks

I've tried those plastic containers with poisoned food that the ants take back to the best before and they seem pretty effective. You get them from B&Q They say they are for indoor use, but if it's dry outside put one next to the nest and weigh it down with a rock or small brick and leave it for a few days. I've tried it once on one of about five nests I've got in my back garden and it seemed to work so I've bought more to have a go at the other nests as soon as the good weather returns.

Ants are nice. Treat them to some Budweiser. They march like proper little Columbian troops. Be friends.

How do you recognise an ants nest? Wondering because we have little mounds of fine soil appearing in our lawn recently. There's a hole about 10mm across in the middle when they're fresh. Ants or some other Beastie?

Talcum flour on lawn or try flour just sprinkle it, they dont like it and move.

But theyre lovely little things to watch so hard working and never strike or have problems with tilers.

Which explains why they have such a crap life and most don't even get a shag.

I can't think of a better example to illustrate why everyone should join a trade union.

Aluminum?

Molten titanium would have been much more niche! 😉

Thanks qwerty. I was going to go and stamp on the ground next to one to and see what came out, but having just read the wasps nest thread I'm not so convinced now!

They are solitary not part of a hive.

What harm do the ants do?

destroy lawns with huge dirt mounds above their nests, which if youre into gardening and like your lawn could be seen as a negative?

we had 3 or 4 mounds at least a foot across and a good few inches high, not interested in gardening and wasnt overly bothered by it but I can see that if you were, it would.

Boric acid in a sugar solution. Like ant crack. They carry it back to the nest and it destroys them very quickly!

cheers for the replies people, can't get hold of napalm or molten aluminium and I don't want to hurt the little workers, just move them on and rid my lawn of mounds so will try for nematodes
