Hey have you tried LocalBar2 - you can side load 'droid apps using a 'bluetooth loop' tricking the PB into thinking that its using (itself as) a proxy?!?

Just got my playbook, am I right in thinking it needs to be rooted to sideload? And that playbooks with the newer software can't be rooted?

sadly Localbar only works if you've got an android or BB phone as you need to teather it via bluetooth which my i4s won't do

Still side loading is a piece of cake and you don't need to root it.

Install the sideloading kit (not localbar2) and in a couple of clicks you're downloading .BAR files and installing them on your BP!
