I ordered some sale stuff from Planet X this week.
It arrived quickly, nothing missing and great prices, so I'm very happy.

I was quite amused to find they seem to have used a load of rubbish as instead of actual packing material - it's like they just grabbed the nearest bin and emptied it into the box. Some of it's even a bit sticky.

Prompting my son to ask 'are they an actual company?' - reckon he thought it was some shonky eBay seller.
LOL. As he would say!

Do you have any idea how much commercial waste disposal costs?

Is that bar tape? TBH packaging is a good way to reuse paper and other packaging but there's a limit...

I bought half a a bike off classifieds here, it was much the same, literally the contents of a bin- hundreds of those wee leaflets you get with a new bike saying DON'T ADJUST THE GEARS OR YOU'LL DIE, empty flatpacked boxes, but there were crisp packets and empty coke cans too 😆 Mental.

One of the employees has escaped in a recently emptied rubbish bag?
🙂

Everyone does it.
Old spoke boxes, random bits of expanded polystyrene, labels for stems in sizes you're not sure exist, the wheel builders Daily/Morning Star....

I'd draw the line at someone's lunch, sell by date depending.

Recycling 8)

Perhaps not going to please those who watch unboxing videos of new gadgets on youtube, but I approve.

Did the stuff arrive undamaged, did the packing do its job? If yes then what is the prob, I use recycled card/paper/bubblewrap whenever I can in my business and Planet X should be applauded for dong that too.

^If they started using used rubber dongs to package, I would pay to see photos of that

Good on them, if arrived in good order it worked.

I do draw the line at old pants. Yes i'm talking to you chappy who wrapped his old kegs around the bottom bracket of the transition bandit he posted me. Actually donned some rubber gloves to remove said pants just to be safe.

I recycle packaging, but there's a limit.

Best ever was a customer who sent an electric bike battery back to me, padded in the box with cake. Lots of those packaged ginger and fruit cakes. We were eating them for weeks afterwards.

One of the suspension workshops, probably TFtuned, maybe Loco, used to occasionally post up some of the hilarious ways people would send forks and shocks to them. Can't actually remember any good examples though.

I bought something on ebay and the "packaging" included:
A brand new drill
48 drill bits
An extension lead
A hair brush
3 rolls of sellotape
A packet of cheese and onion crisps
Some newspaper

Bonus!

I was more impressed by the choice of price on the fork I wanted from them.

£144 or £89.

My choice.

There's recycling old packaging and then there's what you can see above. Beyond a joke!

That's not the only 2 choices really, I'm always receiving horribly packaged stuff from my ebay shenanigans, where it's got here intact through luck, sometimes despite the packaging. (I had some stuff which was "packaged" with random blocks of wood, just loose in the box- offcuts of 2x2 and stuff. Like they'd gone "Well it's basically just big sawdust!"

I'd get a bit miffed about genuine bin contents, as opposed to clean waste paper etc.

However, what really annoys me is the three packages I've had this year filled with polystyrene chips...how are they not banned yet?! Even a modest amount completely fills a 30l bin liner, I was going to send them back as a protest but decided it would be wasteful 🙁
