Thanks Greg, kind of you to say and yes I agree, I really like that one also. I was sort of watching the scene unfold and thinking 'oh please go and stand in front of that painting'; the lighting and the angle all just seemed to come together.

This was shot wide open at f/1.4 on a manual focus lens but crucially, it is a new camera body; the Leica SL, which has the most amazing EVF. It's twice the resolution of the Sony's, which was no slouch, but still just not good enough for critical focus at large apertures. The quality of the Leica's EVF though is so good it makes manual focusing like this both a breeze and hugely rewarding. The fact that the lens is a 50 Summilux also helps with the way this image works.

Greg the SL is a beast - but the lens is what makes it work, nothing wrong with manual at all. Agree that the EVFs on the newer Leicas are excellent.
Currently getting to grips with my new Q and find myself using the manual as much as the AF. Which is surprising me.

Lovely photo polarisandy. I really don't understand what it is I like about your photos as they are usually very simple compositions but I find it pleasant and interesting to just gaze at them. Some of your recent countryside shots with the atmospheric mist inspired me on some of the photos I took from my recent biking trip in Wales. They made me think about composition a bit more, rather than my usual method of just using rule of thirds with the rider and the trail in shot. I'm really happy with the results so thank you.

geetee, I really like your Landizwe photo, really nice photo capturing a lot of character.

Thank you Jairaj i'm really pleased that you found them inspiring.
I spend a lot of time thinking about composition, but hey you've got lots of time with medium format cameras, tripods, film and light meters!
As time goes by and i take more photos i find that the compositions get simpler (or i might call them less cluttered) and they feel stronger and calmer for it (well to me anyway).

Liking the portraits GT, great to see.
Also like that last shot Beanum.

Happy Halloween to you all.

Is that a stuffed badger tir?

I only say that as it's hair is in the same place on each shot, as is the angle that it's looking down and to the right.

If it's real I'm sorry

Ha!

Very much alive I'm afraid, visiting every night and scoffing all the peanuts. Currently shooting through the windows, but hopefully she will be ok with me being outside soon. And fingers crossed for cubs in the spring.

Thanks Geetee. Hes a really nice bloke, and a very decent and genuine person, but he looks a bit intimidating walking down the street. Wouldn't hurt a fly in reality.

Love the Canal St Martin photo, get that printed on canvas and on the wall.

You could straighten the perspective up in Lightroom if you wanted?

I liked this as a random family snap from a point-and-shoot, nice light. Shame about the hair on the scan, will eventually clean it up but I actually like them a bit rough around the edges.

Another from the point-and-shoot, pulled out of jersey pocket in a hurry and snapped 'blind' as the viewfinder was steamed up.

SO this doesn't quite work, though you can see what I was trying to do, link the white statue illuminated in light with the two children in similar attire, but they're just a little too in shadow. I still quite like it though.

I've been celebrating finally having a phone with a decent camera again (keep smashing the bloody things) by going on a bit of an instagram binge.
I wanted to give the photos a bit more of an impact in the way they look on my feed, so I've been splitting 3:1 images up into three so they'll appear as the whole thing when posted in the right order.

I haven't found any way to crop to 3:1 exactly on android so I've just been guessing, so they're not perfect, plus in my messing around to try and post them here I've lost loads of the quality.

Nice idea with the triptychs Paddy.
I think maybe a stronger divider between them would help them work better. Maybe wider black or far wider white gaps depending on the image?
