Having had a very poor result from Photobox, I'm considering getting a photo printer, but the reviews I've read so far are so equivocal on many topics I'm left feeling confused. I'm willing to pay £500+

I wouldn;t bother buying a fancy £500 printer! Find a local photographic shop with £30k's worth of printer and pay them a few quid each time you want an enlargement.

If you do buy a printer, expect lots of further expense on ink cartridges and some wasted materials.

How large do you want to print them? If A4 or less, the Canon Pixma ip4600 is very good and less than £100. You can then use the saving to get your larger prints done at www.peak-imaging.com who do a cracking job for me. The Epson A3 printers get good write ups but it's nearly 100 prints before you've paid for any consumables.

Ditto on the canon printers. We have an IP6700D. It prints pictures up to A4 brilliantly. We've given christmas presents to people that have been printed on tihs printer and they're still great after at least one year.

The cartridges are all seperate too and most ink places fill them up dirt cheap. Very happy with ours. You need to buy the proper paper though, and set the printer to be printing on gloss.
