is there a photo club competition this week?

I've done a search but can't find anything, thought I'd ask just in case it's called something else this week & I'd missed it.

We could make one. However, will anyone remember all those rules?

It's up to yeti guy to decide what our assignment is this week. If he's not posted here by tomorrow mid-morning I'll stick up a thread to just post any pic on. And the rules will be posted on the thread, worry ye not 😉

I took this a couple of weeks back. Was gutted I didn't have my SLR with me - took it on an Ixus compact - but with a bit of "cheat metering" and combining two versions in Photoshop, I'm quite pleased with the result.

Does it qualify for Photo Club?

Ever seen Fight Club, Simon? The 1st and 2nd rules of Photo Club are a homage to the film. People start talking about Fight/Photo Club simply because it exists, and every week its members are given assignments to recruit more and more people to the cause. Although there will be no blowing up STW towers...

What about an assignment to submit an image taken on a compact camera. Might encourage people who are non-toggers to show their pics...
(and, I can enter my snowy landscape) ;o)

We could take photos of it instead?

Not a bad idea, but how do you prove it? I've seen plenty photos on here taken by a decent photographer with a compact that are better than some taken by others with very expensive SLRs

You can just post anyway, it may win if the results are liked by enough.

Kit is the man with the rules but I'm pretty sure you can use any camera you want, my votes will be based on capturing a feeling and composition rather than the absolute technical quality.

Thanks Ski, glad you like it! I've emailed a hi-res version to you.

Zokes, Drac etc, the point would be to show the standard of image that can be taken on a sub-£100 camera, and I can't think of a better way to encourage people to get creative with the kit they've got.

Yoshimi makes a good point about what makes a good photo - it's not always about the camera. I had to combine 2 shots of my winter scene to best represent the atmosphere I felt whilst viewing the scene - with an SLR it would have been far simpler using spot metering and shooting RAW, and I dare say the finished result would have been just as nice.

But I do think people can be surprised and inspired by what a cheap camera is capable of.
Maybe in future, Drac could take it a step further and have mobile phone camera pics only.
Just an idea...

I agree wholeheartedly, but then anyone with an old manual SLR could have a go. My old olympus could certainly give better pictures than my 5D if I were to have a good enough scanner to give it a fair comparison.

We did this a few months back, with some great results. But really having a different theme each week would be a better option than trying to dictate what equipment to use.

My photo was taken on a crappy nokia 6500 and I got a vote and most of my photo's are taken on cheap plastic 35mm camera's. All the photo's in last weeks assignment were excellent. Just use what you've got.
