I'm not normally into this kind of stuff but my brother has passed on an old Sony W910i which he used on Orange, I use Virgin, my SIM doesn't work.
So now I need to unlock it, it seems like a murky world, anyone got a positive experience or know how to do it.
Should I do it via codes etc on the internet or pay a shop to do it.
Do I need to 'debrand' too?
I don't want to 'brick' it which I gather is the term for making it useless and I do want to be able to update the firmware as the phone currently has a habit of turning off!
Any tips or recommendations would be great.

im getting my mates sony c905 soon.
there are a load of websites on the net which you have probably seen, but they do look dodgy.
for me a local 'backstreet' mobile shop 'apparently' unlock them for you, other than that maybe try an indoor market type place near you
