We have a 15 week old border/lakeland terrier and am looking to get him insured. I can't afford too much but would like get him covered. What sort of level would you suggest and are there any recommended policies that offer good value, thanks Alex
I am insured with Animal Friends. I hear Pet Plan is very good too.
I pay £34 per month, which is a lot but I have a high level of cover including third party liability (because I have a rescue Dobermann and wanted the peace of mind). Dobermanns attract a high premium, I believe mixed-breed dogs enjoy lower premiums.
I think the most important thing is to make sure you get what is called lifetime cover. It's for if/when your dog gets a chronic illness which starts in one policy year and continues into the next policy year. When you come to renew, some insurers call it an existing condition and exclude it.
When you are looking at price comparison websites, do check that the policy includes lifetime cover - the cheaper ones often don't.
Dogs are brilliant. Enjoy your little boy 🙂 x
I can't emphasise enough how important it is that you insure to the hilt. I'm not even going to start with the horror stories! Pet Plan are very good.

+ 1 for what Dave Fell is saying.
We use Tesco's dog plan Very good and worry free when problems have happened.
Tesco, More Than, Sainsburys etc, probably all a bit cheaper but send loss adjusters out for anything big. Guess what a "loss adjuster" does?
To be honest never had this experience Maybe down to vets we use (Goddards)
Kennel Club/Pet Plan both very good when it comes to paying out.

£34/month. 😯
I'm guessing that's the Doberman then. 🙂
I used RSPCA pet insurance. It's run by axa, and for us it was the cheapest even though 1/5 profits go to the charity.
Claiming at the moment though & they're taking ages - though will pay out.
