Anyone heard about this?

Recently bought some bike bits on ebay. Getting loads of flak from the seller saying that he needs me to leave feedback so paypal can unhold my payment

Surely this is rubbish?

Seems a bit strange that i have his goods and he still hasn't got the money for them

No I had it when i sold a bike - it occurs when the seller hasnt sold anything for a period of time.

Apparently its buyers protection however its a pain in the arse and worrying when sending valuable items.

I've heard of this but I thought it was only for ipods, phones and the like. 😕

Is the seller also on UK ebay?

[edit] ah, the 2nd post makes much more sense. This would be to mitigate against 'forgotten' accounts being hacked and used to sell non-existent goods.

This guy has 100% positive feedback and has sold some things

What happens if i had been off for weeks? I wasn't informed by paypal/ebay that i would have to leave feedback for him to get my money.

I have a history of about 100 and 100% feedback too and they held 400 quid from me. I wasnt happy but as soon as the buyer OK'd the feedback it was released.

as above - I emailed buyer when I had this happen and they quickly left feedback.

I think the money is released after 30 days anyway?

But why isn't the buyer informed of this?

Not everyone goes in an fills out feedback straight away.. some people forget entirely

Happened to me when I bought a lens and started getting messages about leaving feedback so they could get paid

Think they get the money anyway after 30 days, but if you are happy why not do it promptly, but certainly not before you are completely satisfied

I agree - I kept on top of buyer and informed him about the situation - if he wasnt happy he could return the bike otherwise I would need positive feedback. Thankfully he provided it quickly. As you say though I think it clears after 30 days anyway.

I still think your behaviour is disgraceful, not worked out why yet, but I'll think of something... 😆

Very odd, I don't need to tell people how much I love Tesco before my bank gives them the readies. I don't exactly feel positive about the experience either, it's just shopping. Why would buying something on ebay be so different?

I had this problem - informed seller BEFORE the end of auction that the bike would not be posted until PP's money was in my bank account.

You can't however withdraw PP money, until positive feedback was left...

Long story short - buyer had to leave positive feedback before I even posted the bike, which they were unhappy about.
