I don't use Paypal very often, just for a handful of sites including CRC.
When I checked this morning, I found a transaction for £2 to someone I'd never heard of that had been refused.
I closed the account immediately, as that felt to me like a test transaction to see if anyone was watching before going for a bigger hit.
Given CRC's recent woes with credit card details, was that an overreaction?
You could have just changed the password? that way you could have worked out what it was for/to.
It was to what looked like an electronics retailer in the states. I do tend to shut stuff down rather than hang around when it comes to online security, though.
I have not a lot of faith in Paypal to sort it out quickly if someone did pilfer my bank account.
Does PayPal themselves not do small value test transactions to verify cards / bank accounts (which get refunded)?
Deposits, not withdrawals.
I had some dodgy transactions on my paypal account I just told them, they took them off and I changed my password it has been fine since.
Usual precautions, don't re-use your paypal password on other systems, don't click on links in scaremongering phishing emails, run a malware scan then change your password.
