second rent-a-quote I've heard lately on the subject, no doubt the govt will be "forced to consider it" sooner or later

"Pressure on transport funding caused by the public spending crisis has thrust nationwide road pricing back onto the political agenda"

What's the point ?

The public will still be paying for motorways and trunk roads ...... the private companies won't be providing the infrastructure free of charge as some bizarre act of philanthropic benevolence.

The only difference will be that on top of what we are now paying, will be added a sum to provide the private companies with nice big fat profits.

And don't believe for a moment that it will only affect those who drive on motorways. It will also affect anyone who buys anything at all ....... from any kind of retail outlet.

Britain simply can't afford to privatise it's roads infrastructure.

Although it would undoubtedly be politically desirable, as the British electorate are yet again, fooled into believing that tax 'cuts' means more money in their pockets.
