Do I gamble and do the royal mail 2-3 week checked service or bo for the premium 1 week special?
Anyone recently done it?
having just typed all this I really don't want that sickening feeling of ****in up if it doesn't arrive in time...

Sent off for our daughters last night with normal service, 5 1/2 weeks until we go and I'm a little nervous.

Premium. Not worth the risk.

Deffo go for the 1week premium service. Had some issues when I renewed my 10 year olds passport last year before a holiday.
The passport office have started increasing their referee spot checks, which involves the co-signatory writing a letter to the passport office confirming their signature and the photo before the passport is issued. This meant that it took over 6 weeks for the passport to come back to me. I actually also applied for a first passport for our baby and the same thing happened to his application. Good luck getting it back, maybe things have changed in the last 6 months!

Talking to friends it's only been taking 2 weeks and that was a recent as a few weeks ago.

Personally I'd prefer to just pay more and be sure. What's the cost of a ruined holiday?

Find the nearest passport office and do a visit - can you still do this?

Yeah, she'll be alright at home with a family bag of crisps and a 12 pack of pepsi cola. A postcard would be nice though.

As an aside, how much is a normal passport from the UK? Just deciding if I'm going to bother with renewing my British passport and the Regional Passport Centre in Paris want nearly 200 euros for one. The French lot within walking distance of my flat wanted 80. Looks like I'm going to be back to one passport again.

Never mind, found it. Basically for the privilege of living in Europe, I pay a 50quid penalty in getting a passport. And that's a 50 quid penalty on the 1-day super express thing. A standard one is twice the price of the UK.

I think a UK passport is just short of £80.

I'm booked into Liverpool for an appointment for the 1 week premium as aside from the grief the wife would give me I couldn't bear to see my daughter's face if she couldn't go.

Cash is king! £96.50 and some of the morning off work on the motorbike for an 8am appointment in Liverpool...
