The minute Everton had Rooney turn them down and then hired Frank you knew they were in real trouble, where they can’t even bring in a real manager.

Did they even sound out a real manager?

It was quite predictable that they would go with "big name" ex player rather than a promising manager who has done his time and earned a bigger job. At least the merry go round of premier league mediocracy (big sam, pardew etc) seem to be fading from sight but the Dyche's and Potters still don't seem to be in line for the step ups they probably deserve. Eddie Howe only got the Newcastle job as they were running out of options, hopefully he will do well.

Amazed anyone still finds this funny.

Certainly funnier than the chants about aeroplane crashes, stadium deaths, murders in Istanbul, homophobic chants, anti-Semitism etc.

Edit: and it was an anecdotal comment about something I found funny probably some 20 years ago.

I guess so. On par with United fans singing proudly about Lukaku's length.

United doing ok so far tonight. Penalties.....?

You might as well say that at least it’s funnier than cancer.

Ah ok, I see. Its a bit weird for you now is it? Is there anything else you think it’s “funnier” than? You think a few thousand fans singing a question asking a player on the pitch if his girlfriend does anal sex is funny? I suppose you had to be there…

We’ve actually looked good too. This new ‘Fred’ guy looks great! We had a player called Fred before, but he was shite!

Good match this though. Just waiting for Atletico to really ratchet up the diving/simulation/rolling around and generally time wasting to ruin all that

They're ahead now so the simulations will reach seismic levels. Still, Simone won't stand for that kind of shannogins.

WTF? He’s just taken our two best players off 😳

I hope this is one of those decisions that ends up being tactical genius, but I’m struggling to see it

Here we ****ing go. The Simone playbook. Break the game up by stopping it every ten seconds

Refs need to start carding players for this in Europe

Guessing Bruno isn't 100% following covid. He's still the best ref though 🙂

An Atletico player may actually get a card at some point for this shit. Maybe not?

Did Pogba actually come on at that last substitution? We seem to be a man down

Noted, but clearly not the point of this thread so I’ll dip out now.

Another trophyless season for Utd. They’re mounting up now since that massive Europa League success.

I don’t think any of us expected anything different. We all know how far off the top teams we are.

The whole club and everything about it is an utter and complete shambles

As long as the ownership stays in the same parasitic hands - and they’re obviously going absolutely nowhere - we’ll not get a sniff of any silverware.

Mid-table obscurity and Thursday nights in Kazakstan

I just couldn't believe the lack of crosses into the box given you have Ronaldo and then had Cavani on. Pogba on for Fernandes was weird as he has no urgency about him and Rashford was trying silly tricks rather than getting a ball in the box. I think Mata was the only one to try a bit more route one.

Yeah but these are the same players who put Utd into 2nd in the league last season, either that was a remarkable fluke, or something has gone even more wrong since then. I think a bit of both myself as they've been poor for a while now.... but how the heck did they do so well overall last season lol.

A bit of both

We weren't particularly good, just less bad than everyone else.

Let's be honest, nobody looked like they particularly wanted to compete with Citeh last season. Spurs and Arsenal were way off the pace. Liverpool looked nothing like they did the previous season.

Ok, Spurs are still Spursy, but Arsenal are back on it, Liverpool are back to their best with some more shrewd signings and West Ham are now consistently good. Citeh are just Citeh.

But you've also got players at OT like Shaw and Rashford who had great seasons last time out but just haven't turned up this year. They look slow, lazy, unmotivated, and devoid of ideas. And, of course, you've got a club captain who's utterly clueless and was rightfully subbed off last night (to ironic cheers) after another shambolic performance

Not sure a football match between Everton and Newcastle is the best place to try and demonstrate your cause like that, only thing i know is that there'll be a lot of folk in that crowd who will not like your cause any more now!

Wonder why it wasn't marshalled more, someone tried similar last night, they must know it was going to happen again at the next televised match.

Everton v Newcastle is ending well.

Came in with 5 minutes to go as Allan got red carded, then 14 minutes of extra time......

1-0 Everton in the end, worst game i've watched in a long time, i saw watched, i've been watching a movie at the same time due to the lack of any real quality.

They should have left that guy tied to the goalpost to watch that game as punishment, nothing the courts could do would equal that cruelty!

West Ham vs Sevilla has gone to extra time. I have no fingernails left and beer stocks are running low.

I missed the guy tied to the goalpost, was he protesting at the quality of the match?

Something about oil, probably not the best time in history to be protesting about that!

They've got it in extra time, Yarmolenko gets the match winner!

Doubt it, Norwich are pretty much done, Watford are horrific and Burnley seem to be almost planning for the championship these days.

Still a lot of games ahead, but Everton do look like they should stay up, but then next year will be tougher, as they'll probably be punished due to breaching financial fair play rules due to the debt over the last 3 years.

I think that barring a turnaround from Leeds, Everton will be safe. I watched the match last night and they won largely because Newcastle couldn't take their chances and they ran out of steam in the 2nd half, having played 4 games in 12 days. Calvert-Lewin created what was the only decent real chance they had. If he stays fit, they'll survive. They aren't a good side though and Allan's 3 game suspension could be crucial. Doucoure looks the shadow of the player he can be. Lampard doesn't seem to have positively imparted any particular style of play but I think they've got some decent players. Interesting that Alli was on bench but didn't play and van der Beek wasn't in the squad.

UCL QFs

Man City vs. Atleti
Chelsea vs. Real Madrid
Villarreal vs. Bayern Munich
Benfica vs. Liverpool

They’re the 1st legs ⬆️

So City, Chelsea away for second leg. Liverpool at home. But then in a twist, Chelsea get theirs reversed as Atleti and Real can’t both be at home at the same time. RM’s reversed as AM are champions. Pleased for Chelsea fans as they’re having a tough few weeks, bless ‘em.

Best draw for Liverpool, probably, of the English clubs. I see TAA is out for a number of weeks though - although I’m sure he’ll be fit for the City match after missing the international break 😀

Tasty semi finals if so - draw made already for them (first two in DD’s post play each other). I can see Chelsea beating Real. And if anyone can frustrate/annoy/beat City Simeone’s your man!

I'd put money on City, Bayern and Liverpool progressing but Chelsea Vs Madrid sounds a bit more interesting

Brilliant win for Leeds coming back from 2-0 down to beat Wolves at Molineaux having had to make 3 injury substitutions in the first half and a concussion substitute in the second half for our keeper.

Completely mad game, probably great to watch as a neutral but very nervy as a Leeds fan. Would have been more than happy with a draw but ecstatic with a win. Hopefully this gives us a bit of a buffer against the bottom three and probably more importantly a massive boost in confidence!

Onwards and upwards! MOT ALAW

Shows what I know! Great gutsy win by Leeds last night. We've now got the dynamic of certain teams taking their foot off the gas and getting the flip-flops out now. I'm sure Lage will have bollocked his players for letting a 2 goal lead slip but it's human nature to some degree. With Everton winning, that's 2 bad results in a row for the current bottom 3 - especially Burnley who's momentum seems to have ebbed again recently. It's going to go to the last day I think. The bottom 3 play each other and Everton have a tough old run in. Squeaky bum time!

I see Aubameyang is tearing it up for Barca, do you think he really stopped trying for Arsenal? Pretty bad form.

Nice to see the now annual Wembley semi-final farce playing out yet again. You couldn't make it up..

Manchester City and Liverpool fans condemn lack of trains for semi-final

Leading supporters groups from both clubs said they were appalled as the Football Association began liaising with Network Rail after it emerged no direct trains to London from Manchester and Merseyside are scheduled over the Easter weekend.

Engineering work dictates that trains from Liverpool Lime Street will terminate at Rugby and those from Manchester Piccadilly at Milton Keynes, forcing fans to either travel by road, air or contemplate circuitous cross-country rail journeys that make day-return trips virtually impossible. Avanti West Coast on Monday confirmed the lack of direct trains.

With petrol prices at record highs, not to mention the environmental impact, it obviously makes perfect sense to the FA to have all the supporters of both teams driving to London and back from the North West as you can't actually get there by train!

Why oh way does this same shambles play out the same every year? There is absolutely no need for the semi-finals to be at Wembley, especially given these present circumstances

Yeah I absolutely despise the semis being played at Wembley, it was always a decision to **** the fans in favour for the London centric corporate hospitality crowd.

I might even garner more interest in the national team if they played more matches away from Wembley.

Indeed.

Yeah I absolutely despise the semis being played at Wembley, it was always a decision to **** the fans in favour for the London centric corporate hospitality crowd.

It's the businesses who will have paid to supply those services wagging the dog.

I don't think it's to favour one crowd or another. It's about maximising revenue.

Yeah I absolutely despise the semis being played at Wembley,

I think we all do. Playing the semis at VP or OT or Hillsborough is as much a part of the tradition as Abide with Me or seeing Ronnie Radford's goal at least once a month from January to May

I might even garner more interest in the national team if they played more matches away from Wembley.

Couldn't agree more, it would also help the team. Lots of countries play the crunch games in stadiums known for their hostility - Spain in Seville, Poland in the Silesian Cauldron etc etc.

It was clear as day he was not trying, and his frequent visits back to France, towards the end with some without any approval from the club were also a bit of a kick in the teeth to the fans.

It's a warning to most clubs i think about players getting those big contracts, it also shows where the power lies in football now unfortunately.

Also, Barcelona have gone down in my estimations over the last couple of years, they got themselves into financial meltdown, had to live with their means for a whole year, and now they've taken out a big loan, sold off the stadium name and are again scouring the world to try and nick players from clubs through unsettling, i really wish one of these big clubs would just go to the wall, or actually have to live within their means and pay their debts without kicking it down to the next decade.

We're about to watch Pogba go on a free, very likely to Barca too, having cost us christ only knows how much and delivered absolutely nothing. Need we even mention Alexis Sanchez? On a salary the thick end of half a million quid a week for doing **** what, exactly?

At least Aubameyang tried for a while. Pogba only ever actually turned up for a couple of games a season. Just to rub it in, we then we had to watch this player we didn't recognise being absolutely bloody brilliant during internationals for France, form that we would only get very occasional glimpses of.
