Hi
I have been having on going knee pain after cycling.
I took a few months off the bike the pain has gotten gradually worse.
I went to see a consultant who sent me for an MRI and it appears Ihave
osteoarthritis of the knee!
I have a review in January the consultant told me to go back ease myself
back on the bike. Anyon any experience of this?

Pat

I had persistent knee pain that was also diagnosed by MRI as something similar (your knees will wear and the action of looking by MRI will confirm this). I declined surgery and discovered ITB strain and joys of stretching. Never looked back. Are you sure it is joint and not tendons about the knee? FWIW, my wife has proper OA of the knees, confirmed by laparoscopy and it is not nice and the prognosis not great. Treatment is really pain and inflammation management.

In my experience, the surgeon's answer is normally surgery, so look at your position on the bike first to rule out other possibilities.

Thanks for the advice TiRed.
The MRI showed signs of bone/cartilage wear so I will try and keep exercising and see how things are in jan

Get some Naproxen prescribed by your GP taken twice daily (with or after food) is usually the main drug prescribed for knee pain. Missus uses it for osteoarthritis of the knee. I use it for a torn meniscus and Co codamol 30/500 if it gets bad after the bike.

I have a similar diagnosis, although probably less serious as I never got as far as a consultant... I've found using shorter cranks has been a help for me. Went down to 155mm for a while during the recovery phase, now back up to 165s.
