Hello,

Can anyone remember what the online mapping website was that allows you to view Bridleways,SSSI land etc. It was free and it also gave you the facility to zoom in and out. I thought I was called something like Space??

I don't know but bing maps has an OS view and various sites offer open source maps.

I've always found the getamap service from Ordnance Survey very good - you just need to sign up for a free account to get access to any OS Explorer Map.

I will have to look at that. I am in Surrey and the council website has an ordnance survey map, it's good enough to measure the size and position of my garage relative to the house!

Interesting - you're talking proper large scale (ie 1:10,000 or better)? Was wondering whether there is anywhere I could get that (preferably 1:2,500) for free for a location in Hertfordshire - anybody know of an online source?

aracer - magic defra (above) should do that as it zooms into 1:2,500.

most Council's will have some form of web mapping available on their website, so check their first. Most, including the Surrey CC web map mentioned above, will include OS MasterMap, which is the most detailed level of mapping available. Expect to see the Council's logo watermarked on the map image, so it might not be suitable for what you want to use it for.

Thanks gregsd, that does the trick - magic doesn't zoom in quite as close. Had found another Herts map which didn't go in as close.

For investigation purposes - will pay if I need to use it formally, but would rather not until I know whether we're doing that.
