My contract is about to expire, I wanna keep my number and prob stay with orange as I get free broadband with them. My use is low but I like a fancy phone (thinking a HTC desire).

Previously I think I've got a good deal by calling after the contract is up and haggling...any other experience?

Give them a call and see what they will offer. They have always done me a good deal (free phone, knocked 10% off line rental or free phone insurance.... that sort of thing) 🙂

Get a new contract and something free(like laptop/HDTV/Xbox or cash) with an internet deal. Port your number. Free stuff is always a plus.

When I've looked in the past I wasn't able to port the number to another orange contract, nor to the best deals (which seemed to be cashback rather than free item).

Currently got £10pcm off a £25 tariff, have barely strayed above that so I don't expect to get another £10 off next time.

Best thing I have found to do is find alternatives.

If you ring up & say I want X, Y & Z but no other providers are offering you that, then why should Orange offer it, and chances are that you'll stay with them anyway even if they don't.

If you ring up & say, I like the look of X phone on Y contract for Z cost and am thinking of changing can you match it, then you have more chance.
Also the chances are that you'll initially be told that they can't match it....in which case you need to speak to the people in the "press 5 if you are thinking of leaving Orange" department as they have more room for manouevre.

Not always possible to port your number as often these sort of offers are often only open to new customers.
I was with CPW on O2. O2 were doing a good tariff on a phone i wanted, CPW shop couldn't match it, advised to contact their retentions team, who couldn't match the offer either. So i went to O2 direct.....
Was diappointed i didnt get a deal from retentions, so voted with my wallet.
Having said that, friends i know have gone to retentions to get a better deal and have done.
