After splurging £100 on a Fugifilm J120 camera just before christmas, we've decided indeed that it is crap and want to upgarde to a better digital compact.
Budget is crica £200, must have features are a 10x or greater optical zoom, a shutter that fires when you want it to - not three seconds after you click it, and a reasonable MP quality of say 8 or more.
I think Canon and Pansonic are really the only two options, but any other opinions are most welcome!

Canon SX200 is looking pretty good right now. Blows your budget by a little though. SX100 is a bit older, chunkier and cheaper though.
Only x3 optical zoom, but I have just bought an Ixus 90IS and the picture quality is, quite frankly, stunning. And only £140.
