I've got a week's holiday that I need to use this year, but not a huge amount of money to spend. We're already booked to go away over Christmas so was thinking of taking a week off in October.

Any suggestions? Was considering perhaps a week in Paris (or even a few days, we'd go by train to That London and on by Eurostar), but maybe Shetland / Orkney will be worth a trip? Other continental locations? Somewhere else in the British Isles? Things that must be seen / done / visited when we get there? Too many options, can't decide!

*leia* Help me STW, you're my only hope *end leia*

Perfect time of the year to go to Rome.

Most amazing city break i've ever had. It's a truly amazing place

Take comfy walking shoes.

If you fancy Harris, can recommend a great, inexpensive little holiday chalet.

Or cheap flights/accommodation in a random European city (I.e. not a capital). Lots of them are lovely, and if you look East they're cheeeeap.

Zagreb, for example, was great.

Good question NBT - need to do something similar myself so will watch this with interest 🙂

Was thinking 3 nights in Nice as possible - warm and cheap flights ?

We got cheap flights to Cyprus, and a cheap villa.

Can't say I would fancy Shetland in October !

We've just got back from 8 days cooking on the beach in Hossegor France, the surf was epic so all the boxes ticked, 5 & 8 year old happy to play on the beach for hours, Mrs tanned all day. Surf at dawn and sunset and chill with family all day.
Great restaurants, and friendly locals.
One of the days we drove to San Sebastián in Spain, a beautiful city with a fantastic beach and incredible food.
If I had more time I'd rent a fat bike and try it out on the beach.
The best shop on the planet has to be Sector 9 longboard skate board shop. He had 30 plus demo boards to ride and the most amazing speakers set up in the shop run by the coolest guy I've met in a long time.
We drove the and stopped in Nantes on the way down, an amazing city with tons of stuff, check out the Crazy Machines of Nantes. The best burger I've ever eaten at a place called Dubrowns.

We stopped at Mont St Michel which is fantastic but mentally busy!

So many options, its impossible to say. If I was you I'd check out cheap flights further afield and see what you can dig up. sometimes you can get great deals by stopping at somewhere first for a couple of days, so you get two destinations in one week. Wing it.....literally!

Yes, that's half my problem, there are just too many options. I'm not used to "holidays" - I normally go away to do things like skiing or biking so I'm not used to sitting around on the beach or considering which city attractions I absolutely have to see. Still, some things to think on there - though I am leaning towards a continental trip given the time of year...
