While i totally support bus and coach drivers in the highly skilled and highly trained job they do, its taking the piss to ask for a 500 quid bonus for doing the job they do every other day of the week with out some sports games going on.
Nahh, the government are taking the piss by hosting the games.
If the drivers can wrangle an extra 500 quid then fair play to them. I hope they have a nice holiday with their families.
The union has asked for a £500 payment to recognise the "massive increase" in workload during the Games.
How is that a failed union, I take it the increased workloads equates to increased profits earned by the companies, from the work of their employees. The union are asking for extra money to recognise the flexibility that will be required from their members at this time, seems that the union is being perfectly effective.

all the tax and duty they get back on fuel used, the new buses with a huge grant theyre getting, the hybrids, and boris buses,
The massive amounts of subsidy they also get, and thats before theyve even took a fare off a customer.
But when you are trying to encourage folk out of cars and onto public transport, what else do the bus companies have to offer but subsidised fares?
Lets face it, busses in That London are not the nicest places to spend a 15min journey are they.. And yes I use them quite a lot.
As for an extra £500 for each driver, not a fat lot of dosh in the grand scheme of things is it.
If only they could get the busses to run on time and stop when you put your hand out, thats a service worth paying for, not one that leaves you at a stop just because they can't be bothered to stop (as happened to me last Sat)
So who is going to pay them the 500 quid extra, the customers , you dont have to travel by bus usea bike, car ,van, walk taxi etc.
TFL hacve very strict criteria for the buses that are used in london as opposed to the rest of the uk.
We still have s and t reg buses running here.
whats a bus?
in london a highly subsidised big red thing, 2 axles and 6 tyres, that ignores bikebouy with his hand out.
I think the whole city should have a total lock down ... that will learn them for bring the bladdy event here ...
Yes, they should strike as much as they can and demand the sky as payment ... hold the govt to ransom and once an for all destroy all the credibility of holding this sort monstrous waste of time event and let people carry on their normal boring life.

It doesn't sound like they'll be doing the job they do every other day of the week.
The drivers job is to drive a bus or coach, take fares, and stop at bus stops if safe to do so.
Nothing is changed, just some more passengers and a bit more traffic, i must remember to pay myself more money for driving in the peak hours.
They don't get paid according to how hard they work. They get paid for their time.
Would they be happy to get paid less for quieter periods?
Maybe just maybe word has been spreading and all these bus drivers are saving up to get lasers and pop round to kaesae's under the pretense of being posties/pizza delivery guys.....
What I dont get is they are working overtime, I assume they get paid for it don't they?
I work late I don't get paid for it. Not an issue as I am genuinely happy to do it.
As far as I can tell, the only negative is that all non-essential leave is cancelled.
Its basically a sweetner so they don't strike from what I can work out. Good old trade unions, "here's an oppertunity to get them over a barrel for a bit more money".
lets say you work in an office, I dunno, doing data entry say. Each day you process maybe 100 pages of data. Its not in your contract saying how much data you process, but its always been 100 pages give or take.
Now, for the next 3 weeks you have to process 300 pages. No change to pay, no extra breaks, no benefit to you.
That's called tough tits. If you can process 300 pages in a day; your office is overstaffed by 2/3rds.
project - MemberNothing is changed, just some more passengers
Let me rephrase that.
"Something is changed- more passengers"
Simple really.
but only the loaded capacity of the vehicle.
and most will have prepaid tickets.
the driver doesnt get paid more for the number of passengers he is allowed to carry.
more passengers
No more than the maximum capacity of the bus they are already driving.
So, no change, really.
CaptainFlashheart - MemberSo, no change, really.
No change,if the bus is always full. Which is isn't.
How is driving a full bus harder? If they worked longer shifts, then yes.
A natural extension of what they are after is reduced pay for quiet journeys.

Already been discussed and the manager has a few solutions open to them, depending on the situation.
I think you'll find the benefit to you is that you'll still have a job and you might be considered for promotion. I'm with you on this, salaries suck big time...
Northwind, they're paid to drive a bus up to, and including, full. There's nothing beyond that. So, what's changed?
A natural extension of what they are after is reduced pay for quiet journeys.
OK, so this is a leap. Not really "natural", but one could argue the logic of it. They want more pay for driving a full bus. So, let's pay less for a quieter bus. I wouldn't do that, I have to say.
They're paid to drive a bus, regardless of the number of people therein (As long as there are no more than the permitted maximum number of passengers).
dantsw13 - MemberHow is driving a full bus harder? If they worked longer shifts, then yes.

Driving a full bus isn't harder, obviously. Getting larger numbers of people on and off is. Making scheduled journeys with more and longer stops is. Dealing with more questions and problems due to the increased number of passengers and the increased number of visitors, is.
And no, that's not a natural extension at all. What we're talking about here is abnormal workloads outwith what their pay structure is designed for. Everyday passenger distrubutions fall within that workload.
Look, let's be fair, if it winds up right wingers like flashy, then, can we make it a cool grand, and an extra day off in lieu? Fair dues to them, if they have a position of power from which to negotiate extra dosh, then bloody use it.

But drivers get paid a standard rate per hour, possibly more for weekends and overtime.
Bit like the cheff asking for more money to serve dinners at lunch time as opposed to the rest of the day when he is there.
project - MemberBut drivers get paid a standard rate per hour, possibly more for weekends and overtime.
That's rather the point, isn't it.
project - MemberBit like the cheff asking for more money to serve dinners at lunch time as opposed to the rest of the day when he is there.
It isn't, no. But to stick with your analogy- the chef happily does dinners at lunch time, and the rest of the day, knowing that this is the level of work he signed up for. But when you extend the dining room and double the number of diners, then he's not so pleased.
Fair dues to them, if they have a position of power from which to negotiate extra dosh, then bloody use it.
So, would that apply to a banker's bonus as well?
If so, marvellous. Not a banker myself, but I do get a nice bonus every year. I shall use my position of power to negotiate extra dosh. If that annoys some whiny left wingers like Darcy, all the better.
LOLz, from bus drivers to bankers.
You right wingers will use anything to justify inequality. How very sad.
You brought up the right v left argument, Darcy.
I was merely questioning your opinion on using a position of power to negotiate more dosh and wind up another side of that political argument that you brought up.
Your dogmatic adherence to the left will use anything to justify your own variety of inequality. Where's the sadness?
You brought up the right v left argument, Darcy.
No I didn't. Can't you read at all?
I was merely questioning your opinion on using a position of power to negotiate more dosh and wind up another side of that political argument that you brought up.
WTF are you on about now?
Your dogmatic adherence to the left will use anything to justify your own variety of inequality.
In fairness, you struggle with humour a lot, but this is the funniest thing you've said in along time. You can call me a leftie all you like, but "dogmatic"? Have a read of your dictionary you eejit.
I'll repeat it again, if the staff manage to use a position of power (which they scarcely ever have), then fair dues to them for swinging some wealth their way. As an added bonus, if this winds up the likes of you and the rest of the right wing, then I reckon they should go for the cool grand.
It's funny, right wingers don't like being called right wingers do they? 😕
So, would that apply to a banker's bonus as well?
Yes, indeed it would. Except that if investment bankers go on strike I don't think anyone would notice (or care).

🙂
do any of the knee jerk union haters on here actually use public transport in london in the middle of summer during rush hour?
can you imagine what it will be like with an extra 11million people?!?!? (according to tfl)
and compared to the greed seen in boardrooms across london 500 quid for a one off event is 'chickenfeed'
