Used to adore VH, then Eddie went all weird .. now he’s just noisy..
Another old bloke, this time showing a couple of onlookers how it’s done.
An old bloke and an old guitar

The Edge looks so out of his depth in that series; very ordinary. Jack White is like a kid, it’s beautiful. He has the same feel as Page, if not the technical ability. Not really fair to compare though, he’s a very different type of player. I absolutely love listening to Jimmy Page, especially his solos. He’s the perfect example of how to push, push, push the limits of your own ability and knowledge. One of the things that makes him such a pleasure to listen to is that he makes so many mistakes, but his talent, and indeed the expansiveness of his overall sound, is in the recovery. You can hear him wander off from the riff and when he hits a wall or trips up, that’s when he smashes it with a note or chord you just wouldn’t ever imagine or expect. Never stop exploring and don’t be afraid to get it wrong, that’s what I learned from Jimmy Page.
God, the sound quality on that Yo La Tengo thing is shit. Not got a proper recording instead of some prick in the crowd with a phone?
I guess these days we could call Metal Bands from the 80's/90's old, some of my old heroes are certainly a bit older than I am (even Eddie) and Yeah, who back then didn't think they would get old?
So, first time I heard this bloke was on the Friday Rock Show on R1 (IIRC, certainly wasn't R2 because that was full of Herb Albert and his Orchestra stuff) was it with Tommy Vance?? Can't remember, anyway.. back then he "blew my mind" and I bought his first album that weekend.. Rising Force was just awesome, and still is technically.. though I've long since grown old of that Orchestral Rock he played (still plays) so well..
Welcome on Stage Yngwie!!! \m/
Another from my past, I loved the Scorpions too.. hey who didn't like Taken By Force? Yeah it's the Uli Jon Roth era and here he is in his purest element and no doubt where he really belonged.. The recordings a bit rubbish..
Love John Lee Hooker!
The one and only Johnny Winter:
And the unmistakeable mystic in making..
He can still rock out when he wants too..
Phew, so I got the Heavy Metal out of the way (thank God) and now back to someone who has defined Dance Music and Production is still rocking out the Dance floors around the world..
Ey.. Nile Rogers.. It's worth watching the whole 1:18 concert.. IMO 😉
That Gordon Lightfoot one has sent me down a Johnny Cash rabbit hole…
Last one from me..
Lets not forget this Guys songwriting skills and (when he wants to) his awesome guitar playing..
George Benson..
Edit should add it's very sweary
And an old bloke accompanying my favourite singer...
Goosebumps!
What? No Billy Gibbons?
Just for you, DezB:
Bonus YLT:
I should find some Sonic Youth as well, Thurston Moore is pretty old nowadays. And J Mascis of course.
much betterer!
Get some J Mascis and Albini!
71 year old Tony Clarkin from Magnum. The sound quality doesn't do this genius justice...
Ok, the guy playing ain't that old, but the tracks are probably classed as old mans tracks these days 😉
and just because....
Richard Thompson 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.
Profile of Jeff Beck tonight (Friday) on BBC4 at 9.00 pm.
Rock on.
Warner Hodges and friends
One of my favourite guitarists, with the latest incarnation of his band:
Robert Fripp and King Crimson
Older now than he was when he recorded this, I can’t find a more recent video, sadly. Phenomenal guitarist and I love this song!
Nils Lofgren - Night Fades Away
How about a young man with a guitar? Townes would be old had he lived that long!

Enjoyed the Jeff Beck programme. A musical universe I haven't visited very often, and shouldn't think I would do again, but excellent stuff. I've got an album with him playing some great stuff on too. "Album" indeed, it is called.
Yeah… wasn't a JB fan… but will be hunting out the later stuff featured at the end of that doc… amazing playing.
Old blokes and guitars and no one's mentioned this guy yet.
Edit: ok what's wrong with that link?
Very sadly no longer with us, a great singer, and a superb guitarist:
Ladies and gentlemen, Glen Campbell!
Just paste the link into the box:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0SipBL95Fs
hmmm, it’s not working quite the same.
Ah, I know:
If you click on the arrow link button in YouTube, select email, copy the link from the page that opens then paste it, you get a straight link, looks like this;
https: //youtu.be/ K0SipBL95Fs
but I’ve put spaces after the colon and after the third slash before K0
That Colin Hay vid posted by andykirk is brilliant btw:
Some great stuff I'd not seen or heard before.
Realised after posting it's a bit of as sexist title for a thread, innit? Not intentional, just three tracks I'd been listening to.
Any chance of changing it to Old farts with guitars? We need some Sister Rosetta.
Thanks.
Just finished watching the Jeff Beck program, most enjoyable and he really is uniquely talented. Good to see wimminz playing guitars too!
Hi Countzero, thanks for the crims reminder. Spent 24hrs in volume heaven, mainly the Absent Lovers album. As for the Niks Lofgren clip, I'm having a beer with him on May 15, maybe a meal after the gig.
In a previous life I posted on a guitar site and a thread that had us discussing the moment we dropped our collective bacon sarnie saw concensus on when we saw this. Ground breaking live but pretty pointless on record. Stanley Jordan...

OK here's an old gal with a guitar. I've never rated her but some people seem to like her.
Edit: OK I've completely had it with this forum. It used to be so easy to post a vid now its gone completely to sh!t
Here you go uponthedowns. Dont use the video posting feature just post the video URL.
Oh and if you are a Glen Campbell fan:
