It certainly felt like it tonight in the cinema. Please avoid this dull ,self important ,enormous pile of poo, I wish we had.
is there any hint of scientology in this, i got the feeling that the story was a bit similar to the whole Hubbard nonsense
Really that bad? I was looking forward to it. Bugger!
I was looking forward to it too..
Hmmm, do I still go??
Its ok.
Not as good as I expected and drags a bit in the middle. There are an awful lot of cliches too
7/10
Cheers, tomorrow night sorted then.
I've been advised not to go. A friend said it was awful.
meh its a tom cruise film, they are usually crap, interview with a vampire was good, minority report was ok but mostly hes dreadful
another naff actor whos status gets good films made and then ruins them by conforming to hollywood cliches is- will smith, he and his son have a similar scifi effort on the way
but the hope lies with blombkamp and damon
meh, going to see it this afternoon with a couple of patients... to be honest the more painfully cliche and predictable a film is the better for them as anything more complicated than a disney film leaves them confused and frustrated
also this......
its all about the scifi apocalypse this year!
Take them to see Trance Phil 😀
Love all the Neill Blomkamp shorts and expecting big things, really should do Halo....
Off to see it on Monday looks impressive in a special effects kind of way.
computer game->film?really should do Halo....
can only end badly
Elysium.......looks fab..
slightly understand why i was called Elysium man the other week............was lost on me till now......
Wasn't the TV advert enough of a warning to you?
The Guardian review is enough to put me off. That and the trailers I have seen.
Only recently, Tom Cruise looked as if he was attempting to grow twelve inches to play tall tough guy Jack Reacher; now his role-model appears to be Wall-E, the diminutive cartoon automaton left behind on a wrecked planet Earth to clean up. Sadly there's none of Wall-E's spark in this bafflingly solemn, lugubrious and fantastically derivative sci-fi which serves up great big undigested lumps of Total Recall, AI, Planet of the Apes – with little snippets of Top Gun.
Looking forward to
world war z
and
star trek
don't forget the eye candy
Ah, the ever-seductive "straining on the toilet" pose 😉
You mean it's not a documentary?Boba Fatt

Wash your mouth out!vondally
Looking forward to star trek
It's Star Trek, but not as we know it, Jim
tis better than star trek Jim................. 8)
computer game->film?
can only end badly
You'd think so, and I'm not even a fan of the game but check this...

That makes it sound quite good to me!
Well the cinema trailer I saw last time I was at Cineworld looked bad enough so I was doubtful about seeing it, this thread has firmed up that thinking.

MTFU and get a copy of Cold, available on iTunes download, a real mans film.
New Star Trek film?
The new World War Z trailer is way better than the first one.
New Star Trek film?
What a disappointing thread. I was hoping for this
I liked the bit with Patrick Stewart. "Hi, I'm an expensive voice actor so I'll be dead soon, then you can break out of the prison"
Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave!New Star Trek film?
self important
Strange description of a film ?
I quite liked it. I knew it wasn't going to be mentally challenging or change my world.
It was just a film, and it did what it was supposed to do, it entertained me for the couple of hours I was watching it.
northwind beat you to it mate 😉 what I was expecting when I clicked on it too.stuff the film THIS is the oblivion you want
ah apologies northwind 😳
Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave!
Why would he be rotating?
I heard the review by Empire magazine on 6Music this morning, and they were ok with it. I'd rather take the opinion of a media-specific magazine than some random bods on teh interwebz. 😉
Why is it so bloody difficult to make a decent sci-fi film? Moon was the last one I thought was any good.
We were talking in the office t'other day and came up with a plan that they should ban the use of SFX for 5 years so they all start to think about how to make a good film again.
perhaps they should also ban remakes
this bafflingly solemn, lugubrious and fantastically derivative sci-fi which serves up great big undigested lumps of Total Recall, AI, Planet of the Apes – with little snippets of Top Gun.
Bob on.
Sat through it last night thinking "that bit's outta Star Wars Episodes IV and V, that bit's outta The Matrix, that bit's outta Star Trek The Motion Picture, that bit's outta 2001, that bit's outta I Am Legend...
Basically the whole film is borrowed ideas from other sic-fi's and lumped together into a vague and mis-directed plot. I've seen it all before. With some bad acting. And some bad dialogue. It kinda got going after an hour (when Morgan Freeman shows up), but then got silly after the next 30 mins and then very silly at the end.
Chewing gum for the eyes. Avoid.
Ah you div Edlong, now every time i see this thread pop back up I get it stuck in my head. I can't stand the things that you do to me!
Loved it and the music is awesome
