Girlfriend and I will be driving up to explore in a few days, should be a nice change of scenery... although unfortunately will be bike-less.

What would STW do while in the area?
Any recommendations for food?

A brief Google has brought up Oban Distillery - sounds worthwhile?

Thanks everyone.

Lovely wee town.

they do seal spotting tours from the harbour, dont know if they run year round. down by the ferry port theres a stall that does fresh seafood, mussels crabs etc.
theres a cafe on the harbour front were they make theyre own chocolate. on the way to fortwilliam theres a sealife centre, worth a visit.
cuan mor restaurant on the seafront is a nice place to eat, great food and not pricey.
and the distillery, obvs đŸ™‚

The Island of Kerrera is quite pleasant for a walk around if a nice day. There are some great chippies around the harbour and I've hear decent things about the celidh house for an evening. Just a bit down the coast you can access the isles of Seil, Lunga & Easdale - The home of the stone skimming world championships. In Ellenabeich there is the a fantastic seafood restaurant - for the starter we had 6 Langoustines, each longer than the plate and fresh off the boat, Highly recommended with great views over the Firth of Lorne!

A lovely part of the world

we liked Easdale island (slate island - history, slate pools etc and you get to go over the bridge over the atlantic) but that was on a hot sunny t shirt day it has a pub but I suggest checking as it may be closed in winter

we also liked the drive round loch Awe - but we like trees, water and not many houses - po/shop a Dalavich did a fab bacon sandwich (and again that was sitting out in the sun in a t listening to the birds ....)

Just spend both days at Ogden's Seafood Hut stuffing your face.

Yes, Kerrera is a lovely little island to wander around. There's a nice tearoom at the south end, near the castle. Though probably closed for the winter.

Cruachan power station is worth a look, rather impressive engineering.
If you like big trees, Sutherland's Grove is nice.

In Oban itself, could have a look for the ruins of the hydropathic hotel. Its not too far from McCaig's Tower.
Or just watch the ferries coming and going.

The fish and chip shop is really good and does good seafood, the places on the pier are good too.
Go south to crinan, tayvallich for more seafood, beaver spotting and nice views and prehistoric stuff. Seil island and bridge over Atlantic good. The highland arts studio is terrible but so bad it’s worth a look.

Go to the island of Lismore. We saw a sperm whale from the boat (that was a bit of a one off in 2013 though!)

Kilchurn castle is very nice, add in Cruachan Power Station tour and you're sorted!
