Kid grips is starting nursery next week, she's 3. The school seems to be really keen on pretending that it's a proper school though rather than nursery.

Has anyone been given grief of any kind by a nursery school for frequently taking their kid out to do other stuff? Or did the kid in question complain?

It's not "school", do what you like - you may however get the nursery complaining that they could have given the place to someone else 🙂

To be honest, it's only glorified playschool!

How does a nursery school differ to a nursery? Do they expect kids to 'go into' their own reception then school straight after? Provisional places etc?

I know it's glorified playschool, but it's the glorification that is already getting on my tits.

We've had to buy a uniform, and she needs 'school' shoes which she freaks out about.. trouble and expense for no benefit.

I'd send her in whatever shoes she has and tell the school to bite me if they complain, but Mrs Grips is more anxious about compliance.

I dunno about the mechanics of it - I just call it nursery school but it's attached to a primary school so perhaps there is some difference. It's LEA run.

No doubt the school is expecting kids from the nursery to go into the school proper, and so is setting the expectation level from the outset. Is grips jnr going to go to the main school, that's might be the kicker!

She will go to the main school yes.. unless we move house, or drop out and become hippies or something 🙂

Don't send her - you don't have to.

The nursery will receive the state funding whether she has a day off or not, so I wouldn't worry about it.
It is not compulsory school age so they can't really complain.

We used School Nursery, & the remainder of the day at the schools Sure-Start wrap-around centre.
Children loved the nursery. We took them out plenty of times, hols etc.

I work on the "the nursery/school can say what they like, they are my children" philosophy. Take kids out of school a couple of days before the holidays start = aye, the wee fella is ill today and wont be in.

I suspect you will find that the biggest PITA will be the school office people or as I call them - the evil gate keepers.

They won't mind as long as you keep paying them for the days the little one isn't there.
