Wifey has an ipod shuffle and I've just got an i-touch. If we both use the same computer will the sync facility mess up either both playlists?
If so then if I set up a new user profile on the pc and put the new device on that, will that sort my potential problem ?

set up individual playlists.
set each ipod to sync to the playlist you want on it.
Each device should drive what it syncs to. Plug the device in, click the icon that appears on the left and you can select what is synced to that device.
Mrs Wachowchow and myself both use the same iTunes account but have different tastes in music and movies etc. It works fine.
IIRC press shift key when opening up iTunes - think it asks you if you want to set up another library - just set one up for you and your missus. Synch problems won't be an issue then.
Or just synch on playlists.
