Tomorrow is my 44th birthday (getting Scalextric cars!).

The number 1 single on December 22nd 1968 was Lily The Pink by Scaffold. A novelty record made by John Gorman, Roger McGough and Paul McCartney’s brother with Elton John and Tim Rice on backing vocals. Hmmm.

So, what was top of the charts on the day that you were ejected into the world?

Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg - "Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus"

Which is actually pretty decent.

Status Quo - Down Down

and in the US:

There wasn't a hit parade. Song popularity was still based on sales of sheet music...

But, on the plus side, he was way cooler than Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt or Barry Manilow...

You can add me to that exclusive club as well. Not necessarily the same week though, it was #1 for about a month.

Could've been worse, a day later and it'd have been a Coke advert.
