Found this in the shed. Polished it up a bit and a good rub 😉

Some sort of alloy, art deco, about 12 inches tall and it appears to be an ashtray that makes the base. No markings anywhere 🙁

Is it rare ? Should I go and see Fiona Bruce ????

Anybody see anything like this before or know about art deco ash trays.

I think it hails from the era that your wallpaper was applied

if it was worth anything you've probably lost it all by cleaning it up 😉

Looks similar to German W.M.F. pewterware, they were big in art deco/nouveau stuff around 1900 (and a few years after). I have a tray/cream jug/sugar bowl made by them but can't seem to get anyone to give me a value for them.

To be honest it does'nt really look like it was made by highly skilled craftsmen. the figure is not well made and if it had any value it would either have more detailed markings, aesthetic proportions and would probably have been moulded with the base. it does look like an ashtray but probably the type mass produced, perhaps given away at the fairground, that sort of thing. Still it didn't cost you anything. 🙂

The figure is a mass produced casting in the 1930's deco style of naked ladies. I'd suggest it's not worth much in the current market unless you can attribute it to one of the finer design houses.

The WMF pewterware used to go for a lot of money, I've bought and sold a fair few of them. Particularly in the Glasgow are to tourists who think they look a bit "mackintoshy". Current market though is pretty depressed for small items. Arts & Crafts and Art Noveau furniture seems to still be holding its value fairly well though.

I remember watching an episode of Antiques Roadshow and a guy brought a statue in that he'd polished to a sparkling finish - he was told it was now worth almost nothing, it had originally been a matt finish. If he hadn't polished it it would have been worth £10,000 or something. He was sick as a dog.

The huge wooden base spoils it.
