Anyone know of any NQT probationary positions anywhere?
Just speaking to a friend earlier who has just completed her degree course and is really down that she cannot find a position for her probationary year.
Only 6 of the 21 people on the course have managed to secure placements apparently
Unfortunately she's buggered. Closing the School Sports Partnership programme has resulted in a flood of experienced, desperate PE teachers applying for any jobs available, regardless of salary cuts, etc.
Still, at least Vodaphone don't have to pay their tax bill, eh?

Speaking as someone who always hated PE at school, and discovered "sport" through having a crack on a hire bike years later...
How daft is that? Spend some £££ on sport at school and you'll make it back 3 times by not treating people for obesity and heart disease.
Spend a few more quid and get a wider variety of sport on to the curriculum, and you know, you might actually get a decent proportion of the population doing some exercise.
Sport has changed a lot at school Tron. Very different these days. When I need some ideas on how to differentiate a lesson, I often go to the sports department to discuss with them or observe their classes.

When I got mine in my training year at my training school I was lucky, they had an unprecedented number of applications for the job 33 if I recall correctly, especially for that school in that area.
As I said in a post the other day, I was talking to a primary school teacher who used the 'get back into teaching' course to retrain after having kids.
She cannot get a primary teaching job anywhere. Has had to apply for TA positions. which have had in excess of 150 applicants.
Times have changed. If your friend is only just started looking then that isn't the best plan, we have students hired before Christmas.
If she/he can get a long-term cover position they can try ang et the school to start the NQT year for them, but, if they do start cover they then have a time limit (14 months I believe) to complete their NQT training or it all becomes invalid.

If all else fails those are the types of job she has been looking for and has got an interview with a similar agency.
She is 25 so not a just out of teens type student, has done some mtb and ski work in France and traveled a fair bit. Has taught English as a foreign language in Spain for a bit. Also made the junior Commonwealth games mtb for Australia a few years back
Around here the GTP prog and PGCE have been churning PE staff out for the last 8 years. There is a serious glut of PE staff (and IT for that matter).
Being able to teach a second subject will be a good way of securing a post especially if its a shortage subject like English.
Trying to find a permanent position now will be quiet difficult, the big push for recruiting will start again later in the year. If your friend is willing to relocate (even just for her NQT year) it would be make the chance of securing an interview that little bit greater.
