Dropping my son and GF off to reading festival for day tomorrow and have errr until midnight to kill. Thought I'd head over to north downs having only ever done one little ride from peaslake with dialled mike and friends about 5 or 6 years ago.

Is there a waymaked trail - that'll take me from about midday up until 6 or 7?

Anyone familiar with these:

Don't have gps so will need to rely on waymarks or map.

Then i'll need a pub somewhere to eat and read until they kick me out.

All advice very much appreciated 🙂

North Downs (Surrey Hills) are quite difficult to explain where the best trails are as none of it is officially marked.

Having said that i know that Nirvana cycles in Westcott (between Dorking & Guildford) did do a map of some of the trails but not sure if they still do and what their opening times are like.

You could just pootle around the fireroads diving in & out of trails as & when you come across them but if you've not been to the area for quite some time then you run the risk of getting royally lost and could quite easily miss the best bits.

If it were me & i was dropping the wife & kid at Reading then I'd head to Swinley as you can get a map of the fire roads etc from the Lookout Centre & its better posted so if you do get a bit lost its easier to get your bearings.

Have fun what ever you decide to do.

Thanks bigsi. Checked it out and im heading to swinley. Would like to do North Downs but will wait till I find some guides. What i remember about riding it with dialled mike et al was there was no waymarking and the guys leading were local. I'll just keep riding round and round swinley until it's getting dark 🙂

Now just need to find a nice pub with good food and relaxing so I can sit back from 8-kickout time reading a book.

Suggestions welcome 🙂
