So interviewing for a post,
put forward the question how you would approach the first 6 weeks in the new post?
Had a mixed response from other panel members.
What would you folk answer........sensible answers please
I'd try and get most of the letters in the right doors and keep my van clean.
Happy to help.
A wooden post or metallic?
Listen. Learn. Build relationships. Find out. Find out what you don't know.
alas no letters to post and
no van to keep clean ...but good answer
Familiarise with company procedures/standards & network?
Work out who's milk to steal to cause the most annoyance.
apart from working out the milk
does any of that take 6 weeks
Whatever I'm told to do and maybe start [s]slacking off[/s]browsing stw after the probation period ends? 😉
All the stuff it says in the job description.
There is quite a good book called "The First 90 days" Amazon Link
A lot in there about building a network in the organisation, getting to learn how the company really works, who is important etc. Basic message is all of that is more important than technical competence in the role certainly initially. (what @matt says basically)
I'm arrange all the crayons in the right order, and not forget to put the lids back on the felt tips before I went home
Get to know the network admins...
Sus out the workplace sneek, creep and groveller and avoid them, chat to the cleaners and security guards they know how the comapny is performing and who to avaoid.
Depends on the job innit.
It could be to familiarise yourself with the cleaning cupboard or it could be bring in the administrators.
If the other panel members are questioning, I'd suggest considering whether the question is relevant.
they felt it was too hard to answer................
Thanks for coming...
Great question. Wish I'd thought of that recently.
Yep I'd go with you made them uncomfortable. Sounds like a good question for any role. Tells you a lot about a person. I'd be looking for learn, evaluate, asses, understand, discuss type responses.
What was the role?
For most roles i'd would expect people so suggest the following.
Integrate with existing team and ways of working.
Shadow a colleague working at the same level.
Connect with other relevant teams and start networking.
Basically, get to know people and appear to be interested until they leave you alone to get on with it.
