Just fitted a new screen (bought from a retailer on Ebay) to my 4 year old Dell Inspiron 6400. It fits perfectly, and lights up fine on AC but when you disconnect the power lead so it's just running on battery the screen goes almost black. I've also noticed that trying to dim the screen on AC has no effect.
The new screen came with the inverter thing attached, but could this be different to the OE Dell one causing the problem?
Any assistance gratefully received.

Sound possible the it uses more watts and your battery is struggling to power it or the inverter is too much for the battery.
At a guess.
I've finally got the screen to stay on now by adjusting the settings on the Intel(R) graphics driver. I have had to set it to maximum power so it's using the battery life at an alarming rate!
You might be able to get a third party battery which will give you more life.
