Guys, I like the idea of both and am torn between the two as I can get them for the same price at the moment with the deals that are out there.
I know the Gloworms get great reviews on here for performance and service. I know Hope are also really good with their service too, but the tech i.e. LEDs in the R8 aren't as up to date as the Gloworms.
I am just kind of drawn to the Hope lovely engineered look, yes yes I know beauty is only skin deep and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but real world opinions are needed.

Doesn't the Hope one have issues with heat (shirely it must be a hell of weight too), I know the Gloworm X3 is really quite small/compact, well built & would be my choice.
Meh... 180g vs 110g, so maybe not too bad, that the Hope come with a Helmet strap amazes me!
X3? Don't see that on the Gloworm site, do you mean the X2 version 3?
If so then I can vouch that it is a lovely light.
No idea how it compares to the Hope but this video convinced me that the Gloworm was a good choice for wet winter weather:

didnt work when I tried it, never got a response to email, but then a S/H set of X2's came up so I bought them instead. great lights.
Send him a FB message instead, gets a quick response.
moreupsthandownz - Memberbut the tech i.e. LEDs in the R8 aren't as up to date as the Gloworms.
i wouldn't worry too much about that, lights have got to the point where 'full power' is just bonkers. 2200 lumens! - chuffing nora! - you'll need shades if you want to use all that for anything other than dazzling doggers.
the R8 will give you more than enough light, with more than enough run-time.

then it should really say that on the website...
I was just passing on my experience, I'm not associated to him or his website! 😳
I just entered the code in the "Enter Discount Coupon Code" bit at checkout. Worked fine for me. Saved me £17.10 off the normal price. 😀
Also found Danny very quick to respond to emails.
I'd definitely go for the Hope Vision R8 - Cheapest I've found is here: http://www.3peakscycles.com/p/7237/Hope-Vision-R8-Front-Light
I've had a Hope light, nothing lovely about the Engineering, their obsession with making everything out of aluminium let it down, very unreliable and I sold it.
I've recently bought these, excellent quality
I'd definitely go for the Hope Vision R8
Reading that link it seems that compared to the Gloworm XS the R8 is 330g heavier, isn't waterproof, isn't programmable and doesn't have a remote switch.
But it does have 8 Cree LEDs instead of 3, giving 3000 lumen maximum instead of 2200.
So I guess it depends on how keen you are on melting the trees.
FWIW I don't run my X2 on maximum power and that is "only" 1500 lumens.
I own an X1 and an X2 - I've seen the R8 and TBH wouldn't bother!
Its massive in comparison, can't change anything, the remotes on the X1/2 works perfectly sat next to the shifter, etc.
It's simply so well designed and made - it makes a mockery of the supposed skill/care of Hope. In fact it makes them look "home made"

If you're talking about the District you sold, it still works!
Their batteries on the other hand aren't much to write home about. Trusty Hope support to the rescue there...
What about a nice UK made Lumicycle
My new Explorer is on charge now!

Oops XS not X3 must be age not seeing things right!
Thanks guys, good opinions just what I was looking for.
I think I need to have a look at them in the flesh, I have the option to get my hands on an R8 head unit which I would need to get a battery for, which I know Mark at MTBBatteries can sort me out with as I have pinged him an email.
If there is anyone down Lewes or Brighton way who has an X2 I could look at I would be obliged.
Cheers

Nowhere near me otherwise I'd be happy to.
I'd consider the X2 as well.
It has plenty enough light for me and it is cheaper and lighter.
