I'm generally happy with my Pug 406 - estate, diesel, cheap and reliable. Revently, all my family (2+1) went on holidays with bikes and there was no space at all. The boot was too small, the engine gutless.
Without spending serious money, say within £3k, what can I get? Sharan? Galaxy? Vito?
5 seats, space behind seats, good driving and comfortable (adjustable) seats, ability to go at 100mph for hours loaded up, cheap to run - min. 35mpg.
Any suggestions?
What stuff were you taking to make a 406 boot to small? MPV's have even less space than an estate unless you are carrying bulck items.
I'd have a Vito 🙂 Just love the look of them Without falling into the people carrier category
2 adults, 1 small kid, 2 bikes, suitcases, potty, kiddie toys, wife's make-up bag, laptops etc. Add some presents, gifts and hand-outs and 406 gets tiny. A Volvo 940 estate would be just about right, but it's not too chap to run. I'm tempted by a Vito TBH.
Anybody knows what model is worth having? 2.2 or 2.3 diesel.
Buy a trailer.Your car is plenty big enough for a small family.
Get a roof box
A friend went to france in a BMW 3 series estate which i figure is even smaller than yours. He has 2 kids, 3 bikes, bike trailer and all the other gubbins that go with a 3 year old and 6 month old. He did have 2 adult bikes on the roof with a slim roof box.
When you say 'laptops' I guess you mean more than 1?
Sounds to me like excess luggage rather than anything else.
i went to the south of france with 2 kids( one 5 year old and one 9 month old) and 1 bike plus luggage and nappies and even managed to get the bike inside of a laguna estate. it sounds like your wife has to much luggage 😉
The luggage is one thing, the lack of speed on motorways another. In France the limit is 130kph, in Germany there isn't and 130kph is very slow there. Besides, if we want to take a couple of our bikes, kid's bike, toys etc. we need more space.
I'll be checking both Sharans and Vitos, we'll see.
