Just about got a green light from Mrs STS on a new bike next year. Given the prices i'm toying with the idea of building my own as I can buy different components as the money comes in or as deals crop up.
I've put together the following list:
- Frame
- Fork
- Handlebar
- Stem
- Headset
- Brakes
- Rotors (if not included in brake set)
- Chainset
- Bottom Bracket
- Rims & Hubs
- Tyres
- Seatpost
- Saddle
Have I missed anything out?
I'm conscious that I need to make sure that different bits and pieces play nicely together i.e. Hubs and fork axle, bb and frame, groupset and q line.
Anything else I need to factor in?
Equally excited and daunted by this project!
Pedals!

So, err, yes, you've forgotten lots.
There will always be something you forget.. Tools to put it all together.
What beer and tunes will you have while building? You need to consider these things, it's important.
Oops, should probably have mentioned what I was factoring in.
Hubs/Wheels are built already so spokes included.
Casette/Shifter etc is factored in to he groupset.
I'm moving my bars over so they've got grips on already, also transferring pedals.
Other bits have genuinely been forgotten. Lots more to buy!
Thanks to all so far!
Nedrapier, that list looks v useful 🙂
Anyone got a ball park figure on what cost I should factor in for random bits like cables and outers etc?
