Any Peak District locals know of any campsites near Bakewell or Matlock? Closest I can find on line is Packhorse Farm, 2.5 mile walk outside Matlock.
Must be all middle-age male friendly, who will be up talking crap until at least 11pm following a long ride in the Peaks and several light ales
Some friends of ours used to own this, they sold it a good few years ago so not sure what it's like now
Has a decent bar on site though and 10/15 mins walk from centre of Bakewell, 5 mins from Ashford in the Water which also has some decent pubs

Not sure about Matlock http://www.birchwoodfarm.co.uk on Wirksworth Road is a bit far for walking to any pubs (Cromford doable across country but a big hill on way back) but is right on the route of my local ride around Blackrocks/Crich and Ambergate so again ideal for riding
Of the two I would say greenhills is nicer and better for pubs but birchwood has some really good (little bit cheeky, you would probably need a local guide to make the most of it) riding all around it

it's a pub with a camping field attached. 2.6 miles from matlock towards darley dale. so 45 mins stomping or a short taxi ride. and if you're doing the 5 shire ride (or it's called something like that) it's 2 minutes from the start.

I think that's about the best you'll do. Matlock being what it is (hilly and built up!), campsites tend to be a few miles outside.
Why does it need to be walking distance? If its for pubs the Square and Compass one would be OK as there's another pub around the corner in Darley Bridge (Three Stags).
As Iain1776 says Ashford in the Water is also a possible.
Greenhills has always been nice enough, haven't been since Easter 2013 though, so not sure what it's like now, but I can't imagine much to have changed.
Walking distance so we can stagger too and from a selection of pubs. I did know about the Square and Compass, so maybe we'll end up there. Not doing the 5 shire ride, doing a route around Edale then travelling a bit further south to camp / go kayaking the following day
