It's good, but it ain't Wilderpeople

This got a good review in Empire mag, haven't got round to it yet-

Have you seen What We Do In The Shadows? Same director as Wildepeople.

Recently finished Sex Education, which I thought would be rubbish, but was actually really good.

Also watched The Dirt, was entertaining enough for a couple of hours. I've read the book a few years ago so already knew the story /incidents.

Any recommendations for decent indie-ish films that aren’t all bleak and miserable?

I would say the Land of Steady habits - but it's a bit bleak and miserable but funny too.

Just finished season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. Daft as a brush in places, but really enjoyable, and the finale was fantastic. Probably anathema to proper Trekkies, but who cares about them?

I also loved the punisher!
Little J is loving Little Lunch at the moment & I have to confess it has made me laugh too.
( he’s 6.75 y/o!)
And after life is fantastic.

Watched episode one of The umbrella academy last night as was really enjoying it which surprised me alot as I really don't like marvel stuff or super hero genre although I do love Sci fi.

The Wandering Earth looks watchable - dubbed for us lot, which is fine by me. Big budget, bit OTT, but isn't every sci fi - done about 30 minutes of it, then the missus comes home...

The Siege of Jadotville - true story about a UN peacekeeping force made up of Irish Army soldiers sent to the Congo in 1961. Great war film.

Just finished season 2 of The OA.

Brilliant stuff, very brave and the only thing that comes vaguely close to Twin Peaks in terms of being out there but really well executed.

Saw Brawl when it was on Sky, some surprisingly gruesome scenes and def worth a watch (the start is a bit boring).

I only managed about 45 mins of Wandering Earth and got bored, will give it another go soon I guess.

Also how have I not heard of Trailer Park Boys before? The preview clip was pretty funny and seeing it had been running for 12 seasons I thought I'd give it a shot. Halfway through season 2 at the moment and it's still making me laugh.

Halfway through Dead To Me at the moment and enjoying that.

S2 of the OA was utterly bonkers - I'll echo the above comment about parallels to Twin Peaks. I have to say I only just got through it, and to be honest, not sure I really understood it!

Counting down to S3 of Stranger Things 🙂

Like Twin Peaks, I think you have to relax and go with it a bit. Just take it all in and wait for the threads to come together.

The last episode was proper WTF stuff though, eh?

Watched a rather unusual horror the other (after a recommend in Empire mag) -
CAM - stars the girl who got her eye popped out in Handmaid's Tale as an internet webcam girl. Things go weird. It's actually a pretty decent film. There are some boobs on show occasionally, but it's not smutty 🙂

Last Breath, not Netflix but Iplayer so should be good for everyone to watch.

Astonishing story and a comeback from the dead to make a Champions League semi look ordinary

A Very Secret Service

Very French very chic very funny

S1 of this was excellent. S2 I'm struggling to work through; it feels like hard work, and like it's lost everything that made the first so good :/

Playing catch up a bit, but watched Polar tonight.

Huge fun in a brain off, mind open, way.

Loved the 'slow motion' take on a corridor fight scene.

Half disappointed in the 'open' ending, half hoping they make another one.

Undercover.

Really good mainly Dutch drugs, gangsters and cops noir. Set on a mobile home park where they weekend. Some very black humour, but it's just really well put together and acted, good domestic touches etc. Lots of female characters. A real treat.

(Blimey a rave review. I'm in Budapest later and will probably watch an episode on the laptop, so there you go...)

The 12th Man.

That was superb!

I've just finished watching 'Kin' and whilst it took me a while to get into it it got better and better - great sci-fi.

The 12th Man.

Not watched this yet but looking at the synopsis I assume it's a film of a book called "We Die Alone." Amazing take if survival and will worth a read for those who like a true war story!

12th man is very good, courage and determination you find hard to imagine in anyone and which you just know you could never get near.

Wandering Earth - got through it with lots of help from FFWD button. The premise was great (in a sci-fi way) but characters were thin and plot did not advance very well.

Bob Dylan film by Scorcese! great watch!

New Black Mirror. not as good as the last series but still quality.

re-watched all of 'Master of None' this week, love that.

'When they see us' and 'Dead to Me' next up

The wondering Earth is bonkers Chinese Hollywood blockbuster fare, utterly mad, huge and crazy..I was a bit annoyed that it was dubbed and not subtitled. It did get me into reading Liu Cixin's Three Body Problem though

Currently watching Knights of Sidonia...its really rather good Japanese hard sci fi anime.
Its a pity that Cowboy BeeBop is no longer being shown but there is a Netflix live action version rumoured to be coming soon which may, or may not, be a good thing
