I'll probably get slaughtered for this but I really enjoyed The Foreigner. It's a revenge movie between Jackie Chan and Gerry Adams (Pierce Brosnan) and if you can get the past the political mistakes it's a good romp.
I thought Hardy Bucks was great no it’s not cerebral but it’s very very funny. Give it a try after a couple of pints.
I’m not a big Gervais fan in general, but bloody hell, this is brilliant.
Does it get better after episode 1? Lots of swearing, Gervais being Gervais. Meh.
If anything I thought the dirt was a little too cheerful. Fine as a series of skits (you could see the Jeff Tremaine Jackass influence) but could have been an awesome mini series if they'd just followed the chapters of the book. Yes it was full of drugs / boobs / booze, but I dont think it got across just what di-k heads Motley Crue really were both to other people and themselves, how few **** were really given, and hence why they were SO big.
Loved the day in the life of Tommy Lee section, thought MGK was spot on in his portrayal of a hyper active wide eyed kid who somehow made it big. Good for a Friday night with the boys and beers movie, but should have been longer (and not screwed with the timeline quite so much).
dirt is on my list....not before guardians of the galaxy 2 though!
I'm only two episodes in but the second series of The OA is really bloody good.

I didn't make it to the end of E1. Not Gervais at his best.
Watched Triple Frontier last night, it was ok but seemed to be a hurried finish with quite few loose ends.
Enjoying season 1 of the O A
+1 for Dawn Wall
Gervais being Gervais
Never seen him doing a character like this before. Brilliant series, shame there's only 7 eps.
And the last one gets a bit
Watched the F1 doc series this week. Not been into F1 myself since the early 1990s but it was quite gripping (pun intended).
Dawn Wall was great. I have no interest in climbing, only watched it based on recommendations from this thread, but it's quite powerful. I vaguely recall the news when they got back from Kyrgyzstan, but hadn't linked him to this movie.
After Life was good. A few laughs, a few moments when the room got unexpectedly dusty... Gervais is a bit Marmite in terms of his comedy, but he certainly understands pathos. I enjoyed The Office, I still think the Tim and Dawn storyline is one of the greatest ever love stories! Second only to Ted and Ralph. After Life is no Derek though, that had me properly crying in places, and laughing through the tears.
Have just watched the first two episodes of The O A. Weird but intriguing, looking forward to seeing where it goes*.
Love, Death + Robots... Watched the first one, loved the visuals. Loved the story, too, except. Dunno. Second one was dull, only watched the first third then skipped it. Third one was visually stunning, the mix of photo-realism with anime highlights is really effective. Wondering if they used motion-capture, some of the movement is so life-like.
But why is the lead (female) essentially naked for most of it? It's a great storyline as it is, between that and the superb visuals there's more than enough entertainment. The nudity adds nothing to the whole thing (sweet baby Jeebus I'm sounding old here!). Don't get me wrong, I was a teenager in the late 90's, I put the nascent web to good use researching certain types of Japanese culture 🤫, but everyone's got to grow up at some point. Except the creators of Love, Death + Robots, apparently. Here's a chance to get something new into the mainstream. Proper thought-provoking, conversation-inducing stories, animation for grown-ups, sublime animation. And tits for no apparent reason. I'll probably watch the rest at some point but hopes are low at the moment.
*Hello to Jason Isaacs.
Watched Murder Mountain. Thought it was good.
WillH sed> And tits for no apparent reason. I’ll probably watch the rest at some point but hopes are low at the moment.
You're new to David Fincher?
Tried using Netflicks yesterday. Can anyone tell me a) how to generate a simple list of what titles are available? That random genre system is annoying. b) If there's no answer to my first question, how on a laptop to prevent the preview clips running on the menu page.
Ta.
Can anyone tell me a) how to generate a simple list of what titles are available?
If I could do that I'd probably be a millionaire.
Plenty of articles out there covering stuff worth watching on it though.
The Highwaymen
Just watched this, awesome film and stunning cinematography.
3 episodes into the oa,series 1 not sure whether to take it to the end of series 2 or not yet. Line of duty might get a run through as I liked it before. Difficult to commit to an on going series. I might have to stick with short movies. Triple frontier was watchable , but very rushed and story was not executed as well as it should have.
Madeleine mccann , only managed 3 episodes in, then just got bored with it.

You can't
I sed > how on a laptop to prevent the preview clips running on the menu page.

And now I miss Blockbusters.
Watched The Highwaymen yesterday (Netflix must be the best invention to occupy an off-sick day!). Funny how Woody Harrelson has become a quality sign in films. He is brilliant in this too. As is !YES! Kevin Costner! So much better as an old geezer than an action hero. Top quality film. The real stuff at the end is fascinating too. Not sure it's quite up there with Warren & Faye's version, but def worth a watch.
I just watched The Highwaymen too. I thought it was solid, but not amazing. Yes, Costner does ok as a grumpy old man, guess it saves him from having to act.
2nd series of After Life has officially been confirmed. Be interesting to see where he takes it as it was wrapped up quite well.
The Highwayman was Ok I was left a bit disappointed as it just seemed be a loop of the same story sections but in a different location.
Trailer Perk Boys animated. Penis milkers!
Started watching Kingdom after it was recommended on here (I think). Pretty good so far although I keep wishing the prince and his bodyguard would take their hats off. Restricted vision, something extra to grab and a sweaty head are not good in a zombie infestation.
Just finished watching F is for a family which is worth a go and pretty funny at times. I especially like the mad, drug addicted neighbour and the dads catchphrase of “I’ll put you through the ****ing wall”
Watched Polar ladty week. Good if you like assassin films.
No it's not.
Yes it is. 😬
Kingdom is gripping and not short of extras. More realistic than most zombie films.

🤔
Don't know if it's been mentioned but give the Mist a wide berth. While I liked the film the series is very disappointing.

Agreed. Just finished it this week, great series but felt very complete as it was.
Did enjoy it, not just for the bold topic but the look and feel of it was very original too - like a stage play at times and edited very snappily so it never lagged.
A Very Secret Service
Very French very chic very funny
Really enjoying The OA. Watched the first series last week and a few episodes in to part 2 now. I think the characters are great and some nice cliff hangers. I am struggling a bit to keep the various threads in my head just now, but then that's not unusual for me!
Made the mistake of watching Alien Warfare last night, another film-for-Netflix special.
Kept wanting to turn it off but also wanted to see how badly it could actually turn out. "very" was the answer to that. Cliched, tired, sterotyped - gets "inspiration" from several monster / alien films (mostly the bad ones) but has no idea what to do with any of it.
Russian Doll is pretty good. I'm sure page 5 or 6 has that covered though
Really enjoying The OA
S02E04 is one of the most bonkers bit of TV I've ever seen, love it.
The walrus lemmings on our planet were pretty upsetting viewing

Sounds like I dodged a bullet there.
Just finished the Punisher.
I don't know what to do with my life now...

not netflix but started watching Animal Kingdom on Prime.
huge fan of the film! an all time favourite, so was keen to check this out - no idea how i only just heard about it!?
Im only a couple of eps in as yet but seems decent enough, i find so many american remakes impossible to watch but im invested in this for now. great turn from the young lad from Peaky Blinders who plays Josh, but some of the other brothers acting can be bit dodgy - im guessing one of them is british too, going off his weird american accent...
it may be a bit boring to some but just started watching 'the durrells' from scratch. love our greek islands, so its an easy watch and never seen them before. thatll be our viewing for the next few weeks til we've caught up.....
Any recommendations for decent indie-ish films that aren't all bleak and miserable?
Loved Wilderpeople but obviously not a lot will match that.
Or even underappreciated mainstream movies.
