Hey, does anyone have the Nest cameras, thermostat and/or smoke/CO detectors and would bw willing to share thoughts. Experience and costs etc...
We're having some work done on the house and I would like some home connectivity and need smokies and always wanted an ip camera to see I what the dog gets up to during the day!
Cheers
Scott
I have the thermostat... we had a major house refurb, but at the time it was jsut the thermostat... I COULD swap the fire detectors to be nest, but not fussed about those..
I like it - i like the variable calendar and temps, and the ability to switch it on when coming home from holiday etc.
I've linked ours to amazon echo, so i can turn up/down temp via my voice (we've ECHO's around the house so can control it from the bedroom etc). Do i ever do this....not really, but it's summer...
Maybe come winter I'll use "Alexa, trigger I'm chilly" a bit more!!
DrP
Got the smoke detectors and would highly recommend them but whether they are worth the very high price will depend a bit on how price sensitive you are. I love the fact that they check themselves and you get an email if one of them develops a fault and drops out of their network. Similarly they check themselves monthly and you get a message if there is a problem. Finally the voice thing telling you which room has smoke is fab - much better that a beep and having to run around to work if it is just burned toast or a real problem is great. They are probably as close to fit and forget as you are going to get for a smoke detector.
But it comes at a real cost and you can get something that will work just fine for much less. Not sure I would bother wiring them in as the batteries are good for 5 years and after 10yrs you should probably replace them anyway
Refurb just finishing here. I have stacked up 8 heatmiser stats, 6 nest protects, about 20 z wave modules, 6 hue lights and fibaro HC2 to bring it all together.. we shall see how we do!
Thanks all. Are they really that expensive?!
I like the idea of the battery units and their functionality and rear of install.
The thermostat sounds good.
Might get a quote and see what happens but thanks.
Thermostat and 2 protects here. Yep like them. Really wanted the cameras but frankly they are taking the mikey with the price and ongoing cloud fees, so I want with a wired swan system.
I had it all setup with Alexa but it seems to have forgotten....
100 quid each roughly (maybe a bit less) but if your house needs 6 then they are pricey. If you cut down in the number of them to save money then you are doing it wrong ๐Thanks all. Are they really that expensive?
