Did anyone go to the NEC cycle show today?

If so was it any good? Worth a 4 hour round trip tomorrow?

I know the reviews last year were terrible but it looks better this year but that could just be clever marketing!

So so. I live on the opposite side of Birmingham and nabbed free tickets 6 months ago and it only cost £7 on the train. I don't feel robbed by attending, but we'd seen all the stands and watched some chunks of the talks by 1pm. If it cost me full ticket price to get in (£10) and I had to travel any distance, I could see it being a bit disappointing.

Some shiny things to look at, deviate have some gorgeous Ti frames they're prototyping, Atherton bikes have the full stand there, lots of e bikes from the smaller players. Some freebies, gels and stickers but nothing major to write home about. Very little to actually buy.

Cheers, don't think I'll bother then as it sounds very similar to the show at Ally Pally earlier this year.

Its a shame that shows like this are struggling, I remember going to Bike 98 as a kid and I'm sure I could've spent a week there looking at all the stuff.

I was going to do heads/tails between NEC and Gwydir trail, Gwydir is only 30 minutes away so I better get my bike ready for the morning!

Forgot this was on. Got given some free tickets earlier in the year.

Got a father's (in-law) day trip to Skeg Vegas tomorrow, so will miss it. Maybe haven't missed much...

Not worth the trip, we felt like it was a waste of time and we live nearby and got free tickets.

I went about four or five years ago, didn’t feel it was a good use of my time back then.

I think the real “customers” are the exhibitors.

Can’t fathom why these shows still exist.

sure back in the 90’s they were amazing, often only place to see stuff up close (remember a great trade day at Ally Pally). But also back then, pretty much all items came from your local shops and for any mail order, that involved sending a cheque off in the post…

Yep. Early nineties (94/5) the show was at Olympia and it was fantastic. Keith Bontrager had a stand and was selling his stuff. Brant did a talk about the Iditabike race that he’d just done and Jez Avery (?) was doing massive bunny hops. I bought a Timbuk2 bag that’s still going strong. 😁

If it's anything like the motorcycle show at the NEC I found it hugely disappointing.  It felt like it should have been free as it was just a big sales opportunity for the big manufacturers.  There were one or two custom stands but not much   I remember thinking it was more fun to just look around motorcycle dealers locally.

Not worth the money or the journey for me.
