Is there anyone from Boris’ government that isn’t either a nutcase or a complete git?
Ben Wallace seemed to be generally honest and hard working.
Ben Wallace seemed to be generally honest and hard working.
Working in this government certainly appeared to wear him down until eventually he started delivering the same gaffes as the rest of them. Perhaps he even recognised that fact and decided to get out while he at least had some reputation for competence and his sanity intact.
Gove may not be a nutcase but he is a complete git
Yes, a competent git.
Because of Gove’s competence
A short view of Gove's history at any of the dept that have been unfortunate to have him as a boss will quickly dispel the myth that he's competent (other than by comparison to anyone in the May-Johnson-Truss administrations). He may very well be a nice person, but he's a Tory and his instincts are still to **** over the average Joe by removing, not spending, diverting money away from, or reducing services that they may need or rely on.
Just look at how well free schools have performed, and how much money has been spent on them in various projects, and have a look at who chooses to open and run one to see how well Gove's reforms of education have performed. To choose just one of his almighty **** ups.
Her decision has cost her £19k in severance pay alone by not making it to the next election. Not to mention £86.5k in salary
Is it that difficult being a Conservative MP in a pro-conservative seat? Or is she on track for greater rewards?
She's become a figure of public ridicule representing graft and entitlement, and that's not good for her later career.
Has she actually handed in the paperwork, or just said she's resigning
She has a gig on one of those weird right wing telly channels. GB news? Its also time to call in all the favours. She will not be short of a bob or two
Who is actually responsible for handling resignations from the house of commons?
Whoever they are they should have called her bluff after her first announcement, and stated that they accept her resignation announcement with immediate effect.

Resigning the House of Commons is crazy. Basically you can’t do it. So you use loop hole created in like 1672 and join something like the “Chilterns Hundreds”. You aren’t allowed to be an MP and in the Chiltern Hundreds so that gets you kicked out of the House of Commons
The details here are wrong but in essence that’s what happens

This may be unpopular with some - but Jonathan Gulllis is a dreadful person. My sons were unlucky enough to be taught by him, before he became an MP.
He’s a total chancer and a cretin - let alone a holder of extreme views. He has behaved in the chamber in a way that would get his previous pupils, suspended or expelled.

Yes the loophole was historically you cant be an mp and also have an "an office of the crown" so if you accept the latter you lose the office of mp.
In the past a bunch of different positions were used but it got formalised to just the steward of the chilterns hundred and the steward of the manor of Northstead.
There are also various other jobs which exclude you including civil servant, full time police officer, regular military (aside from the very top ranks), judge and a few others.
