S22 Ultra, 13 months old has the black screen of death - with none of the online fixes working. I think it must be may fault as it has been dropped a few times, only noticed today that 2 of the lenses on the back have a crack in them and there is a small smashed bit if screen on the very edge.
I guess I could pay a couple of hundred quid (?) to replace the screen, but last time I did this on a previous iPhone - I lost some of the functionality.
I have seen a deal for a Pixel 8 for £26.99 a month (250gb / unlimited calls) and no upfront cost, which might be an option for me as it would mean I don't have to find the £££ to fix the phone just before Christmas. This is cheaper than buying the handset outright.
Any thoughts? I have a really shitty work phone that I can use for calls for the time being, but it is clunky (Nokia G21)
I don't own a Pixel 8 but I'm a huge fan of the pixel phones in general, I'm on my third one now.
Nice clean Android implementation and you'll always be the first to get updates. More importantly they perform technological magic with their AI picture stuff.
2 year warranty on the s22 ultra worth pursuing?
Otherwise I can't recommend pixel phones highly enough.. The pixel 8 will be quite a bit smaller than your s22u if that's a consideration. Also no stylus if that's something you use on the s22u.
Pixel 8 pro more of a similar size to the s22u.

I think, that thanks to my clumsiness this will apply - the damage to the screen is tiny and could well have been there for weeks. The phone just went off this morning when I was at the gym.
The warranty does not cover accidental damage. If your device has a smashed or cracked screen, this will be deemed out of warranty. If the device has deep scratches or dents that cause the device not to operate, this would also be classed as out of warranty.
Whatever I do I will get a case next time!
No insurance you can claim on?
Unfortunately not. I used to have it with an old bank account - but that was costing me £25 per month (included a few other things like breakdown cover & travel insurance). First time I have needed it so probably broken even...

Must admit I never use a mobile without a case and a screen protector. They are literally the first things I put on it when I open the box.
Modern phones are just so expensive and so bloody slippery in the hands without a case!😑
Another question. Any easy/free (or cheap) ways to transfer the settings/apps/data from a phone I can't access to a new one?

If you have a Google account, there may be some form of back up on Google Drive. My Pixel 4 to Pixel 6a transferred everything without touching the P4
