There really was some bolox being written last night by 'experts' saying England were going to win the ashes now.

What a shower, all that good work undone.
Sweep on the Aussie 2nd Innings score anyone?

I think Aussies will bat and bat and bat to rub it in. 500 odd and bowl England out for 100 second dig.

I turned on the radio just over an hour ago expecting to hear England passing Australias score for the loss of a couple of wickets.

I was scratching my head wondering why England were bowling. I thought I was listening to highlights of another test.

It must be demoralising for Englands bowlers who did well yesterday, particularly Archer.

Which is why Australia's game plan now should be to bat until they've got as many as they can - really grind the England bowlers into the dust. It doesn't look like they'll manage that now - but they will still have enough to win the game unless England find a magic spell from someone.

Morgan for captain?

His back can barely last an ODI and he's no spring chicken so it'll never happen.

It would be good to have a *proper* captain rather than do it football style and just give the "best" player the title. The problem (as it was before Root was appointed) is a lack of candidates. Who are the strong leaders who can not only be a tactical mastermind on the field but also whip the ECB in to shape and handle the off field more political stuff and put a long term plan in place like Morgan appears to have done for the ODI side?

Good thinking from Denly, nice to see the classic village cricket tactic of ‘old-manning’ get a run out in a Test. Maybe Jofra could do it, just hobble slowly enough to lull the batsmen into a second and then laser it in over the bails.

I really wish I hadn't checked the score. Now I'll end up following it tomorrow and we'll be all out before lunch.

it's still a big ask, another 100 from Root and 2 50s else where.

Following English Cricket is like a crack addiction I've had all my life,
I was so upset by Englands first innings display on Friday I vowed not to care anymore. As I did when they were bowled out for 58 in Auckland eighteen months ago and after the performances in the West Indies earlier this year. Last night I was back watching (I'm in NZ) and tonight I'll be watching hoping! even though i know the pain is coming again.

As a glass-half-full kinda guy, I’ll suggest it’ll be over by lunchtime.

That’s the end of the first morning session, so lunch. Not dinner... 😉

If these two put on another 40 or so after lunch then it's going to get interesting.....still fancy Aussies as it is

Get it below 100 or another 10 overs on the new ball and at least the lower order could have a swing - you never know! But yeah, it’s the hope that kills you !

the exploding helmet and being out if bits dislodge the bails is a bit suspect ! is it designed to have bits detach on impact ? Being out because of safety equipment operating as it should would piss me off.

another wrong umpiring decision.....

That is the sixth decision that Chris Gaffaney has had overturned.

this is getting embarrassing.

No doubt about that one.

Advantage Aussie. Hazelwood going really well here. We need to see off this spell of pressure.

Stupid shot, should’ve let it go by

The bits that came off the helmet just clip on

Doubt it.....it's gone now. Woakes has had an awful test. Buttler was unlucky I know, but he's not a specialist test batsman I'm afraid.
