Does anyone know where I can pick up free carboard boxes in Edinburgh? I'm not sure if supermarkets still give them away. Somthing about them being a fire hazard, I think...

Supermarkets will do it- but most stock is worked at night, so you'll need to phone and ask for the nightshift to leave you some- and collect the next morning.

Unfortunately, I need boxes for this weekend. Thanks all the same!

Also, well remembered about my pedals! I will definitely take you up one the offer of sorting them out. Will you be in the shop over the weekend at all?

Did anyone make it out into the Pentlands last night? I made it down to GT to avoid the slop, but it was still pretty filthy. All good fun though!

Dair - do you know anyone who works in a care of the elderly hospital / nursing home?

Pad boxes are a good size and strong. If you feel cheeky you could even ask the porters if you don't know anyone

Thanks, TJ. I don't know anyone in Edinburgh, but I am capable of being cheeky!

If you are struggling, Argos do house move packs.

Self storage places sell them.
I know you wanted them for free but if your short on time you may need to buy some

I can recommend http://www.helpineedboxes.co.uk/ if you want a few good quality boxes for more fragile stuff.

We're still using their wardrobe boxes after two years 🙂

Try the IT departments of the hospitals.

Thought this was going to be a thread about someone falling on very hard times, glad to see it's not!

Try ebay or similar places, i sold a whole lot of used stroage boxes for 1p, I was just pleased they were used by someone else. Freecycle may be worth looking at as well on the same premise.

Branches of costco usually have a lot of boxes - mostly the fruit and veg type. Walk in through the exit (you need to be a card holder to get into the store proper, but not to the cafe etc that are at the exit)and the boxes will usually be by the checkouts. Lidl usually have them at the checkouts too

For stuff that isn't too delicate then the big blue bags you get at the checkouts in Ikea are very good, pick them carefully as there are three sizes but they all look the same folded. They are a good shape, very strong and hold their shape well when you pack them so they can stack quite neatly when you are loading.

Argos - collapsible plastic crates to use and use again. dead handy for stacking on top of cupboards and wardrobes too.

Alternatively I got load over several years from a local supermarket. Banana/fruit boxes stack really well, especially if you're all the same.
