OK, so I’ve just had a new (expensive) floor fitted in the kitchen, the washing machine and other white goods are currently sitting in the dining room. How can I move (the washing machine particularly) back without damaging the floor?

I was going to put some sheets of hardboard down, which I think, will be OK, but I still need to slide it in the last foot or so into the slot under the work surface. Are there pads or something you can put on the machines feet to stop it scratching? Or some other solution?

Preferably something I can just pop to the DIY store and get rather than ordering on line and waiting?

Cheers

hardboard under work surface - you'll have enough room to lift the machine a few mm to recover the board.

keep the water/outlet pipes high up as you move it...

If you sit the washing machine on a carpet offcut, it should slide under the worktop without damaging the floor. You should be able to extract the offcut with some 'rocking' and pulling.

I have a similar problem. I just put some cardboard under the washing machine and slid it in on that.

We got some "skates" that came with ours? Try you local dixon's, and see if thay have any spares?

I would offer to loan you them, but I don't even know where farnborough is...

Thanks Chaps.

Not sure if Darren Brown can help unless any of my dead relations have any ideas about how to move the thing.

What's the flooring?

If it's hard or glossy then a bit of washing up liquid under the feet helps it slide the last few inches rather than scrape.

Helicopter tape for the floor otherwise.

Just leave the washing machine in the dining room.

You could use it as a focal point at dinner parties.
