I need a new phone for work -
Camera
Social media
Calls
Video - watch
NFC / google pay
good battery
Big screen

All features that I must have - does the G8 plus tick all the boxes?

Sim free - anything else to consider from a proper shop like John Lewis ?

Mrs CFH has a G8 Plus and is very happy with it. Only possible downside is that the waterproofing and camera isn't quite as good as my shiny Sony, but for the money it's impeccable.

Tick.

I'm in same boat, 5 year old S7 is getting long in the tooth, mibbe time to change. G7 is apparently the better camera btw.

According to all the reviews I've read.

I'm tempted, but slightly put off by lack of waterproofing, I'm a bit spoiled by the S7 now tbh, the ability to fire it in any pocket when biking, hillwalking or running.

I'd have thought most £200 phones tick those boxes?

Think my pocophone does, might be a bit more £ tho.

Writing this on my G8+. Really happy with it, use the dual SIM option for my work number.
Not high level of waterproofing but never had a problem.
Battery is really good and the camera still beats a lot of more expensive phones.

My lad has one - does everything you list well. It's a third of the price of the Samsung S10 and S20 I have, but definitely not a third of the phone. The only thing it really lacks is the waterproofing

If you can squeeze a few more quid (£30 or so) out of the budget I would recommend the Moto G Pro - all of the above benefits of the G8+ but the Pro is AndroidOne, so no crapware full range of google services (including Google Pay) and guaranteed OS/security updates for 2 years. Moto sent me a loan unit last week for business evaluation, and for the price its an absolutely cracking phone.

What about the Nokia 7.2? We've been looking for something about that price and it sounds like what you're after. Buy them direct for £200.

I have a Moto G7 Power. Will definitely replace with the equivalent from Motorola when its time to upgrade. Cracking phones for the price.

Moto g pro looks good but I’m not sure it’s 5g compliant?
