Ok, so exactly a year ago my son was in a bad place, big negative impact on the family, felt desperate. He took his bike test, passed, I gave up my business and with encouragement from many of you, we packed a tent and spent a brilliant time touring Europe. It helped us all enormously and he is so much in a better place.

He was keen to repeat this year, but a month before we planned to go, my mum died unexpectedly. Needless to say, huge upset. But we're now away, and it's once again, wonderful.

But for those of you tearing your hair out about your kids, my son has been a huge support, offering very wise words to me about my mum, grief, career and life. The tables have turned. I feel very proud of him. So there's hope even when it looks really grim.

And for anyone else vaguely thinking of anything similar, do it!

That looks like great fun!

Do you know what rack/topbox system you have in the Sprint ST, I'm trying to find one for my Sprint RS, but they're like rocking horse poo!

So the route's been a good one for us...calais to Basle (ish), then South thru Swiss Alps, over to the little Italian lakes, south to Genoa to meet little son and Mrs A for couple of nights, then around the Les Grand Alps (following the Tour roughly), which is where we are now. The Alps are stupendous, esp the Swiss ones if for just the condition of the roads. We've camped nearly always by lakes which are v good for chilling by. Heading home gently tomorrow probably hugging Swiss border.

Good times, and a privilege to be able to do it with my son.

The top box rack was fate - I bought the Triumph on Monday before we left, rode to the Midlands to see my dad on Tuesday, one came up on Ebay local to my dad that day, so picked it up weds and we left for Europe Thursday. Fate!

Your clearly a great Dad, Aus - and that has rubbed off on your son ๐Ÿ™‚

And that trip looks fantastic. I'm considering something similar in a few years time (just a solo trip), so this makes interesting reading.

Motorbikes are great - if I'm feeling down, a quick blast out on the bike is just what I need.
