Afternoon/Evening all.

Could do with some advice from the STW car mechanic massive please, or those with more knowledge than me..

I own a late 90's Peugeot 106, had it for over a year now without problems, so it's been pretty good to me. As the title says, the MOT for it is tomorrow, and having given it a good clean I've noticed that the front LH wheel arch is sprayed with oil, and when looking under the car, oil of some description is clearly visible over the disc caliper. Yikes.

The brake pedal travel is fine, and I'll take it for a spin in a mo, but obviously I'd like to be able to stop..

Hard to tell what the problem could be over a forum obviously, but if someone could give me a rough idea of if it's a big problem or not I'd really appreciate it, skint at the mo so I'm hoping it's not a massive job.

*waits nervously for replies*

Thanks in advance all.

Ciao

Most probably just a driveshaft boot split thats sprayed grease up into the wheelarch

Leaking damper? try bouncing that corner of the car to see if it rebounds. it should simply return to where it started - if it bounces more than once you need new dampers (BOTH the front ones, don't EVER replace just one!)

Could also be a leaking oil pressure switch.

Right, I've checked the brake fluid level, and it's fine.

The engine oil on the other hand is quite low, near the bottom of the stick, but then again I've not put any in for quite some time. Oil light not on though.

Slammed the brakes on, on the gravel drive and they skid as you'd expect.

Think I'll leave it for the expert tommorow.

Thanks everyone.

most likely cv boot gone.
if your lucky it'll just want replacing and re-packing with grease. if not then you'll want a new joint too.
if you're getting a new boot, get an original one.

CV boot, undoubtedly. In fact I'd bet my bike on it. (owned a car with teh same drivetrain and went through 4 CV boots).

Funnily enough I didn't realise that Brainflex..

He's picked the car up now, has said it is the CV boot, and that it's just split and caused the lovely mess everywhere.
