I've been good this year, only had a dozen so far.

My research has confirmed that this years Aldi standard are better than the posh ones they did last year, the Asda 'deluxe' have a filling/pasty ratio too skewed towards the pastry and that Morrisons are currently leading the way with their baked in store beauties.

I KNOW that Ms Spanner has already started baking, but she's cunningly hidden the results to prevent a pastry-pocalypse.

Can anyone recommend any other shop bought ones to tide me over?

Sainsbury standard are better than the posh ones too - much better.

Home made still best by miles though.

Tesco deep fill mince pies are quite tasty.

As Surf Mat says though home made ones are the best and my mother-in-law makes lovely puff pastry and shortcrust pastry ones 🙂

Prior to their sad demise Wallace Land O'Cakes in Dundee did just the best pies ever, pea pies a speciality
Today, it would be Murrays in Perth who bring them out the oven and pile them on a wire rack to cool, but sell whilst still hot. In fact, murray's pie and an almond slice mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It helps if you're in the Tayside area though

</Edit/>d'oh, missed the point completely, i thought it was MINCE pies (pies with mince in them) - not mincemeat pies which have neither mince not meat. Time of year innit? Pay attention up north

mum makes mince pies (the christmas ones) using an old Canadian recipe thats been passed down through her family.... it uses copious amounts of cider and a lot of actual mince (meat) in them. we never tell people about the fact they contain real meat and every year people bang on about them being amazing etc etc, when you tell them they're not vegetarian people refuse to believe.

i miss mums mince pies 🙁

Tesco deep fill mince pies are quite tasty.

Had my first one last night and thought it sadly lacking in filling....was a bit disappointed. Perhaps it just needed a spot of brandy cream?!

i wouldn't, it'd just cause an arguement.
you know how it goes - left wing nationalist, public sector pies vs non state subsidised, free market pies imported from some sweeat shop in the philipines

How many is too many?

I'm on my third in the past hour. Is this acceptable behaviour?

(They are minging "Welsh Hills Mince Pies" from Mace too. I'm off to Tesco tonight for some of those deep fill bad boys mentioned above.)

Mmmm

Have a go at making them yourself? Not difficult and sure to impress and use Delia's recipe for mincemeat, you'll never buy it in jars again. Go on, Rusty, get baking!
