For cooking me veg!
Bamboo one with a normal pan
One of these:
You can be steaming fish at one level and asparagus at the next etc.
What mike said. They're so cheap and work really well. The best bit is that once everything is cooked you can use them to serve up & they'll keep the veg warm for ages afterwards.
We use a steamer basket, lasted over 10 years and used most days...
Saves buying yet another device / pan which takes up space etc.
I've gone for a steamer basket - didn't even know they existed!!

I have bamboo ones and a couple of Le Creuset stainless steel ones. The SS ones stack (as do bamboo ones) but also fit neatly over several different sized saucepans. Easier to clean than the bamboo ones too.
i just use our collander ballanced on a pan with a lid on top, works well enough

Not many people do. You'll wonder how you ever lived without it - use it nearly every day.
<span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">For the real middle class deal you need one of these built in to you kitchen. We’ve got one and it’s great. Fully programmable and you just put in what it is you are steaming and how hard soft you want it and it does the rest.

A book in your oven?

Years ago I worked in college kitchens (Cambs Uni) and they had steamer of that design except they were 6' tall and you could easily stand in one and steam yourself if you so desired. Used to have load in veg by the sack full, 30kg peas, 30kg carrots etc...
We've got one of those stacking pan steamer sets which gets a lot of use , you can do different veg at different times in it
the basket is a good idea too if you are short on space
really really good. I also recommend their microwave rice cooker.
